Bills' camp concern Jim Leonhard just exposed will thrill Jets fans

The New York Jets are back in training camp, and there have been some positive signs. Ahead of an important season, every practice matters, but it’s also important to see how your rivals are doing. 

The Buffalo Bills hired Jim Leonhard as their defensive coordinator, but less than one week into camp, he already sees issues with the defense. 

When speaking to reporters, Leonhard revealed that there are multiple unknowns on the defensive side and acknowledged there are "depth concerns" on the defense. The question was about the boundary corner spot, per Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.

But the fact that Leonard already sees some possible cracks in his new defense is ideal news for the Jets.

Leonard is a former Jet who played in New York from 2009-2011. He was a part of the Rex Ryan defenses that found plenty of success and quickly climbed the rankings as a coach following his playing career.

This past coaching cycle, the Jets were interested in him becoming their defensive coordinator, as they brought him in for an interview. Obviously, things didn't progress enough for him to take the gig, but he still landed inside the AFC East.

Considering that the Jets will see Buffalo twice this season, already having depth problems in the secondary is what New York wants to see.

While the Jets offense has struggled recently, there's a lot of hope around that side of the ball going into the 2026 season. They have Garrett Wilson as the clear-cut WR1, but behind him, there's excitement around AD Mitchell and rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr.

They also added Kenyon Sadiq, who will be a chess piece that can line up all across the formation. New York's offense has a chance to be an effective unit. And while the question was about the boundary cornerback spot, the Bills defense still has some question marks elsewhere.

Brandon Roy of Fansided's Buffalowdown.com revealed that inside linebacker is another area for the Bills defense that could use some juice. As time goes on, things will become clearer, but it's not a great sign for Buffalo that their new DC already sees some problems with his new unit.

Anytime a division rival has some hiccups, it's great news for the Jets. They need to be competitive inside the AFC East in 2026, so any sort of problem Buffalo has will be beneficial to this team. Time will tell how big of a problem that will be for the Bills, but regardless, it's good for New York.
