The NY Jets have only appeared in one Super Bowl in franchise history, and it's safe to say the 2024 iteration of the Jets didn't come particularly close to reaching the pinnacle of the sport.
Despite entering the year with playoff aspirations, the Jets finished the 2024 season with a lowly 5-12 record. The team will still be well-represented at this year's Super Bowl, however, with a number of former players and coaches set to take part in the Big Game.
Let's take a closer look at all 14 former Jets on the roster or coaching staffs for the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles entering today's Super Bowl 59 matchup.
Former NY Jets on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59
Mecole Hardman - WR
The hero of last year's Super Bowl, Mecole Hardman has been on the injured reserve since November with a knee injury. Hardman will not play in today's game, meaning he won't have a chance to repeat his Super Bowl heroics from a year ago.
Hardman infamously appeared in five games for the Jets in 2023, catching one pass for six yards before he was traded back to the Chiefs.
Mike Pennel - DT
Veteran nose tackle Mike Pennel is in the midst of his 11th year in the NFL and arguably put together his best season in 2024. Pennel started seven games, recording three sacks (he entered the year with two career sacks) and playing 320 total defensive snaps — the third most of his career.
The former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman played two seasons with the Jets from 2017 to 2018, making 10 starts and 32 appearances. The Jets could use a run-stuffer like Pennel right about now.
Jason Brownlee - WR
Jason Brownlee spent the entire 2024 season on the Jets' practice squad but was not retained at the end of the year. Brownlee was instead signed to the Chiefs' practice squad, which is where he stands entering today's game.
Brownlee was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of SMU in 2023 and caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in his rookie year.
Anthony Firkser - TE
Anthony Firkser has had two separate stints with the Jets, most recently this past season where he appeared in four games as a reserve tight end. Firkser spent the summer and the first two months of the season with the Jets before he was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad.
The Harvard product was originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent all the way back in 2017. Firkser played in three games for the Jets this season.
Spencer Shrader - K
One of the many kickers the Jets rotated through in 2024, Spencer Shrader appeared in one game for the Jets, made every kick, and then was subsequently poached from the team's practice squad by Kansas City.
Unfortunately for Shrader, he'd play just two games for the Chiefs before landing on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Dave Merritt - DBs coach
Dave Merritt spent three years as a defensive assistant and linebackers coach with the Jets from 2001 to 2003. The longtime New York Giants assistant has been the Chiefs' defensive backs coach since 2019 and is amazingly hoping to win his sixth Super Bowl later tonight.
Former NY Jets on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59
Mekhi Becton - OL
Perhaps the most notable ex-Jets player in this game, Mekhi Becton has been one of the NFL's best success stories in 2024. Becton signed with the Eagles in the offseason and has impressed as the team's starting right guard.
Injuries derailed Becton's tenure in New York, but the former Louisville star has found new life as part of the Eagles' stellar offensive line. He will play a key role in today's game.
Bryce Huff - DE
Bryce Huff left to sign a three-year, $51.1 million contract with the Eagles this past offseason. The Jets were slammed for letting Huff, a homegrown success story, walk in free agency, but his first season in Philadelphia has been a massive disappointment.
Huff recorded just 2.5 sacks in 12 games, playing just 39 percent of his team's defensive snaps. He will have an opportunity to make a difference in the Super Bowl, but his debut season with the Eagles has been a letdown, to say the least.
Braden Mann - P
Mekhi Becton isn't the only former Jets draft bust to find a new home in Philadelphia. Braden Mann has quietly been a quality NFL punter over the last two years since signing with the Eagles in 2023.
Mann was rewarded with a two-year extension last offseason and has been an integral part of an excellent Eagles special teams unit.
C.J. Uzomah - TE
C.J. Uzomah has spent the majority of the 2024 season on the Eagles practice squad, appearing in seven total games without recording any box score stats.
He's currently on the injured reserve with an abdomen injury and despite being a full participant in practice all week was not activated before the game. He will not play today.
Parry Nickerson - CB
Remember Parry Nickerson? A sixth-round pick of the Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft, Nickerson is still kicking around in the NFL in the year 2025. Nickerson signed to the Eagles practice squad in October and didn't appear in a game this season.
The former Tulane star played five games for the Miami Dolphins in 2023 and has had stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers.
E.J. Jenkins - TE
E.J. Jenkins signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after a successful tryout at rookie minicamp. Despite a strong showing in the preseason which included a touchdown, Jenkins was waived and signed to the Eagles practice squad.
Jenkins has gone on to become Philadelphia's primary TE3, appearing in eight games this season while hauling in his first career regular-season touchdown. He has a chance to be active in today's game.
Kevin Patullo - Associate HC/pass game coordinator
Kevin Patullo was the Jets' quarterbacks coach from 2015 to 2016 under Todd Bowles. Patullo was a curious hire at the time, given his lack of experience, but he's since developed into a key assistant for Philadelphia.
Patullo has been the Eagles' pass game coordinator since 2021 and was given the title of associate head coach as well in 2023.
Jason Michael - TEs coach
Jason Michael spent two years with the Jets between 2006 and 2007, first serving as the team's quality control coordinator and quarterbacks coach before shifting over to tight ends coach. He's been Philadelphia's tight ends coach since 2021.
