Alec Pierce's injury is the latest thing to go wrong for Colts but right for the Jets

Every New York Jets fan is watching the Indianapolis Colts closely, as the Jets own their first-round pick in 2027. They can thank the Sauce Gardner trade for that, and things just got worse for Indianapolis.

According to ESPN and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Pierce is going to rehab the heel injury he re-aggravated in Week 2. His heel was surgically repaired, and instead of getting surgery again, he's taking the rehab route, which will keep him sidelined for multiple weeks.

If things go well, he could return by midseason, but considering that the Colts are 0-2 and down their WR1, things are looking rough in Indy, and that greatly benefits New York.

It was a rough summer for Pierce, who was sidelined for the bulk of training camp as he was still recovering from heel surgery back in March. The fact that this injury has popped up again is unfortunate and puts the Colts in a tough spot.

Their receiver room was already light, and now things got worse. Going forward, Indy will need to lean on Keenan Allen, Josh Downs, Laquon Treadwell, and newly signed Darius Slayton in the receiver room.

And from the outside looking in, that isn't inspiring. Granted, they have one of the best running backs in the league with Jonathan Taylor and tight end Tyler Warren, who can help carry the offense, but it makes the job of the defense easier. Teams will zero in on those guys and force others to beat them.

Their offense faces an uphill climb to replace Pierce and his production. It won't be easy, and with how bad their defense has been thus far, the margin for error is thin. After two weeks, the Colts are last in the NFL in total defense (514.5) and scoring defense (37.0).

Obviously, things can change on a weekly basis in the NFL, but the Colts have a mountain to climb. They have dropped nine straight games dating back to last season. Indianapolis has their work cut out for them, and things may head downhill quickly.

Their defense stinks. They are without WR1 and have a pissed-off Houston Texans team, who are also 0-2, next on the slate.

The Colts have a chance to be one of the worst teams in the league in 2026, which would be music to the ears of any Jets fan. Everyone knows the Jets are searching for their franchise quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft, and Pierce's injury increases New York's chances of getting a high draft pick from Indianapolis.

Their WR room was already in the bottom half of the league WITH Pierce in the lineup, but without him, there are definitely a bottom five unit. It's a big loss for the Colts and another thing to put them on the wrong path.

Jets fans will continue to watch how the Colts' season unfolds over the next 15 weeks, but reports like this clearly help out New York.
