The NY Jets parted ways with Mike Williams before the trade deadline, sending him to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft. This move was one Jets fans had seen coming for weeks and now Williams is officially on the move.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers reacted to the Williams trade news live during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers praised Williams for improving each week and said "he'll be great in that Steelers locker room."

Rogers pounded the drum for this being a good move for Williams as well, adding, "This is going to give him more opportunities and we wish him well."

There were high expectations for Williams when the Jets brought him in over the offseason to help the offense thrive and quite frankly, he didn't deliver.

That's one of many reasons why it wasn't a surprise to see him finally traded elsewhere but another was that after the Jets had traded for Davante Adams, Williams didn't seem to have as big of a role with this team.

The long-time Chargers receiver had just 12 catches for 166 yards in nine games while wearing a Jets uniform and it was clear that he and Rodgers were nowhere close to being on the same page. Not only was Williams' performance a reason to send him packing but the Steelers' offer of a fifth-round pick is ridiculously good value for New York.

Williams had only 12 catches and that was somehow enough for the Steelers to feel comfortable sending a fifth-round pick the Jets' way. This was a deal they almost had to make even with the recent injury to Allen Lazard.

As for Rodgers, he is saying all of the right things when reacting to the deal because it wouldn't do him any good to slam his now-former receiver. Williams is off to Pittsburgh and Rodgers got his way when the Jets brought his old buddy Adams in to help jumpstart this offense.

The Jets already played the Steelers too so unless these two teams somehow meet in the playoffs, New York won't have to deal with a potential Mike Williams revenge game this season.
