Aaron Glenn just sent a clear message on Breece Hall trade rumors

Breece Hall is here to stay (for now).

Under new head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, the New York Jets are slated to transition to a ground-and-pound style of offense.

The Jets ranked 32nd in rush attempts in 2024, but with Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, potentially UDFA Donovan Edwards, and the mobility of Justin Fields, expect that number to skyrocket in 2025.

With the backfield being so crowded and Hall entering a contract year, Hall has fueled speculation regarding his future in New York, with the ex-Iowa State standout being at the center of trade rumors.

However, Glenn was quick to rebuff the idea of trading the two-time All-American, admitting he enjoys the current state of New York’s run game.

"We have three good running backs and I keep saying that,” Glenn told reporters on Tuesday. “They all have different skill sets that we're going to utilize. And that does not mean I'm trading Breece. I just like having three good guys.”

In 2023, Hall ran for 994 yards and five touchdowns while topping 1,500 scrimmage yards, an impressive feat coming off a torn ACL. In 2024, he still managed 876 rushing yards and cleared 1,000 scrimmage yards with ease, but his efficiency noticeably declined.

Hall’s 4,2 yards per carry marked a career-low, and with Allen emerging into Engstrand’s new David Montgomery, it got people talking. It is clear Glenn and Darren Mougey are looking to emulate aspects of the Lions’ blueprint, and Hall and Allen are reminiscent of Detroit's “Sonic and Knuckles” tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and Montgomery.

Glenn also pointed to the Wisconsin product’s standing as the youngest player in the NFL last season that supports his belief. Even Davis should have a decent-sized role, which should bode well for results on Sundays but serve as a nightmare for fantasy football managers.

Since entering the NFL back in 2022, Hall has earned a reputation as one of the better pass-catching running backs in the NFL, and many in Florham Park believe he’s only scratching the surface.

As it stands, that’s as definitive as it gets: the two-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year will remain one of the centerpieces of a revamped Jets offense alongside fellow 2022 draftee Garrett Wilson and possibly rookie Mason Taylor.

But if the Jets stumble out of the gate, don’t be surprised to see Glenn and Mougey take calls on Hall closer to the trade deadline. Yet for now, just like he wants, he remains in green and white.
