The New York Jets were embarrassed on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The final score might not indicate that, as the Jets fell 23-12. But every single stat you can possibly reference indicates that this was a one-way show.

Just look at the time of possession. Chicago held the ball for 42:45 to the Jets' measly 17:15. The Bears held the ball more than double the amount of time that the Jets held the ball in this game.

To make matters worse, if an embarrassing performance on the field wasn't bad enough, the Jets had to hear just how bad they were from one of the Bears' own players. Bears linebacker Devin Bush called it one of the easiest NFL games he's ever played.

New York Jets faced utter domination from the Bears

When an opposing defensive player says he is getting bored on the sidelines, that's about as low as it could possibly get. In crunch time in the fourth quarter, the Jets had the ball on offense for just 45 seconds. How is that even possible?

The numbers look so much worse the more you dig into them from this game. The Bears ran 89 offensive plays to the Jets' 32. That's the second-worst ratio in a single game in NFL history.
The worst ratio? The 1999 expansion Cleveland Browns in their first game back against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Jets allowed over 475 yards and gained under 175 yards in this game. That's only the second time in franchise history that's happened. The first time was a 56-3 blowout loss to the Patriots in 1979.

Gang Green also allowed 34 first downs to Chicago, the most in franchise history (excluding overtime).

What's next for the New York Jets?

The Jets didn't just lose a football game; they played historically bad, even by Jets standards. Where does the team go from here?

The Jets earned some grace from the fanbase with back-to-back hard-fought losses in Week 2 and Week 3, but that's gone after a showing like this. 21 games into the Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey era, and the team is still getting punked like that?

It's an indictment of the coaching staff, front office, the players, the owner, and anyone involved with the 2026 Jets. Now the Jets are faced with a must-win game in Week 5 against a red-hot Cleveland Browns team with a rest advantage.
