Aaron Glenn gives best possible update on Will McDonald after surprise injury

The New York Jets received a bit of a scare on Thursday when edge Will McDonald IV popped up on Thursday's injury report. He didn't have a designation on Wednesday, but appeared to have something come up with his ankle. The former first-round pick was designated as limited.

Well, on Friday, head coach Aaron Glenn gave an update on his young pass rusher and every other injured Jet, saying that McDonald would, in fact, suit up for Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers along with several other players who were on the most recent injury report.

"When it comes to the injuries, not much has changed," Glenn told reporters. "Just a couple of names, but Kene (Nwangwu), Omar (Cooper Jr.), (Joseph) Ossai, Minkah (Fitzpatrick), they'll be out this game. Everybody else- Will (McDonald), D'Angelo (Ponds), (Jamien) Sherwood, (David) Onyemata, (Jarvis) Brownlee, those guys will be good."

No major surprises from Glenn, as each designation was mostly expected. Rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds will make his NFL debut, and the Jets will be without former All-Pro returner Kene Nwangwu and big-ticket free-agent signing Joseph Ossai.

New York Jets desperately needed Will McDonald healthy for Week 2

The Jets are already a bit thin at edge, and McDonald's absence certainly would've been a scary prospect heading into Week 2. David Bailey, Kingsley Enagbare, and McDonald saw most of the action this past Sunday in Nashville, while Braiden McGregor saw an expanded role thanks to Ossai's absence.

Green Bay's offensive line was suspect at best in their Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota recorded four sacks on Packers quarterback Jordan Love, and the Jets should look to emulate that game plan to the best of their ability.

With McDonald's pass-rush prowess, he'll be a key factor in getting pressure on Love, and his play in the game will be a major boon for the Jets' defense.

New York Jets dodge other major injury bullets

Glenn's positive playing updates included some key defenders. The Jets were already thin in the secondary with Fitzpatrick's injury, and had Brownlee not been able to suit up, they would have been forced to turn to Jordan Clark, whom they just signed this past week. With Ponds and Brownlee suiting up, their back end should be able to make do.

The other piece of good news was linebacker Jamien Sherwood. If he hadn't been able to suit up, it would've likely been the Kiko Mauigoa show next to Demario Davis, and that may not have gone well.
