5 Jets QB trade targets if Cade Klubnik struggles in preseason finale

The New York Jets have seen some encouraging highs and worrying lows from fourth-round rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik throughout the preseason, but he is still on track to be the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Geno Smith.

If something were to happen to Smith, the quarterback room would consist of Klubnik and Brady Cook, which may end up being a worse collection of talent than they had last year. With roster cuts coming soon, Darren Mougey may need to look at the market for a player who can give them a bit more stability.

These five quarterbacks could end up challenging Klubnik for QB2 if the Clemson product struggles in the annual MetLife Bowl against the New York Giants. None of these five are considered locks to make their current team's 53-man roster, meaning they could be had for either a late-round pick before they hit the open market.

5. Brandon Allen, New York Giants

Allen, who will turn 34 in September, has bounced around the league due to his ability to quickly pick up a playbook. Allen, who has 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his pro career, could give the Jets a bit of stability behind Klubnik, all while costing next to nothing to secure.

4. Andy Dalton, Philadelphia Eagles

Dalton has not looked like the player he was in his Cincinnati prime during his brief stint with the Eagles, and he appears to be staring down the barrel of starting as QB3 following Tanner McKee's strong preseason. If Philly likes Cole Payton, the Jets could get Dalton for relatively cheap.

3. Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward and Mitchell Trubisky have seemingly established themselves as the starter and backup, respectively, for Tennessee, leaving the former second-round pick out to dry. His volatile (often farcical) style of play will scare teams away, but the talent is obvious, and the Jets would be fools to say Klubnik has superior arm strength.

2. Sam Howell, Dallas Cowboys

Howell is firmly the third quarterback on the Dallas roster after the strong right arm of Joe Milton has shone brightly in the preseason. With experience as a starter and a history of picking up different systems, Howell's willingness to go down the field might be more appealing than someone like Klubnik, who has played a very conservative style so far.

1. Aidan O'Connell, Las Vegas Raiders

O'Connell is not the Raiders' quarterback of the present (Kirk Cousins) or the future (Fernando Mendoza), despite a level of competency that could make him very desirable as a backup quarterback. O'Connell could be the only one on this list who could keep the Jets competitive if Smith went down, whereas Klubnik is still a work in progress.
