The New York Jets were feeling invincible after a dominant preseason win against the Green Bay Packers, but a humbling defeat against the New York Giants reminded many fans that this team is still very much a work in progress.

The loss for the Giants was illuminating, in a way. Multiple players that were already on the fringes of the 53-man roster turned in some very disheartening performances that might make it very tough for them to convince Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey that they are worth keeping around.

These five Jets are running out of road in New York, as their ability to make a strong impression on Glenn is starting to dissipate. Unless someone intervenes, these five might not make the Jets' 53-man roster.

5 Jets who played themselves off the roster in preseason

1. WR Malachi Corley

The demise of Corley has been slow and prolonged, as the new coaching staff is doing little to unlock the talent many NFL teams saw at Western Kentucky. Corley didn't even see any offensive snaps until the fourth quarter, and he made some mistakes in limited action prior to that. As the kids say, Corley is cooked.

2. QB Adrian Martinez

Martinez appeared to have secured the QB3 job over Brady Cook following a strong performance against Green Bay, but his status is now totally up in the air after the Giants game. Martinez was intercepted and failed to sustain many long drives, while Cook managed to find the end zone.

3. LB Zaire Barnes

Barnes had every chance to secure the LB3 role behind Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams, but he hasn't been able to maximize his opportunities. Barnes was one of the team's worst Pro Football Focus performers in the loss to the Giants, which opens the door for Marcelino McCrary-Ball and rookie Francisco Mauigoa to leapfrog him.

4. TE Jeremy Ruckert

This is one member of the Ohio State squad that might not stick around much longer with the Jets. Not only has Ruckert, who was picked as high as he was due to his blocking upside, graded out as one of the worst blockers in the preseason, but he has been outplayed by free agent Stone Smartt.

5. DT Derrick Nnadi

No player has seen their stock fall more than Nnadi, who went from the expected starting defensive tackle to someone not guaranteed a roster spot. Nnadi, who was deemed "invisible" at practice, was playing in the second half alongside other backups, and many on the beat believe that he is not going to survive cutdown day.
