The New York Jets need to step on the gas pedal as soon as possible, as failing to do so in the 2026 season would be the death knell for both head coach and Aaron Glenn and (in all likelihood) general manager Darren Mougey.
As the NFL Combine approaches, the Jets can prepare for their best chance to turn this team around, as they can pair their bounty of cap space with four top-50 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. Mougey and Glenn, in that regard, are in an eviable position.
The Jets need to find some answers to these five burning questions, as they will hang over how Glenn and Mougey approach an offseason that will likely determine if they are going to be in these same positions in the 2026 season.
5 burning questions Jets must answer as NFL Combine approaches
1. Will they draft a quarterback early?
Alabama's Ty Simpson seems like the only passer worth a top 75 pick now that it appears Trinidad Chambliss is headed back to school. If they do, it seems less likely that they will pick from an ostensibly loaded crop of passers in the 2026 class.
2. Who will be the pick at No. 2?
The three players in the running are a trio of pass rushers in Ohio State's Arvell Reese, Miami's Rueben Bain Jr., and Texas Tech's David Bailey, with Reese seemingly leading the charge. Will the Jets go for the high-potential project, the known quantity run-stuffer, or the skinny sack master?
3. Will Breece Hall be tagged?
Hall will likely be hit with some sort of tag, be it transition or franchise, as the Jets try to retain their top running back. However, Glenn may just decide to move on from yet another remnant of the Robert Saleh era as he tries to put his stamp on this team.
4. Is Alijah Vera-Tucker coming back?
AVT will give the Jets some elite guard play, but the problem with him is the fact that he simply can't stay healthy. Will the Jets roll the dice on his health, knowing what will happen if he is unable to avoid what would be a fourth debilitating injury in five years?
5. How many former Lions will Aaron Glenn target?
Glenn is seemingly ready to bring in many of his old former Lions, which he failed to do last offseason. Between the constant links to Alex Anzalone and free agent pass rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad, Glenn and new defensive coordinator Brian Duker could try to rebuild Detroit's defense as best they can.
