The New York Jets seemingly have full confidence in starting quarterback Justin Fields as the leading man in the 2025 season, but Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are also perfectly positioned to either take the best starting quarterback available in the 2026 NFL Draft or move up to select one if Fields fails to improve the weak spots in his game.

The Jets might not be bad enough to end up with a top-three pick, but that may not be enough to deter a front office with two aggressive guys in Mougey and Glenn.

The New York Giants have seemingly already solved their problems by selecting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 Draft, and they could help their local rivals out by trading down with them.

Field Yates' first official 2026 NFL Mock Draft over at ESPN had the Jets moving up from the No. 4 pick to the No. 2 selection in a trade with the Giants. The Jets used that pick on South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, while the Giants added to their deep defensive line with Clemson DT Peter Woods.

Sellers might not have the pedigree of Texas' Arch Manning, the pure arm strength of Penn State's Drew Allar, or the accuracy downfield of LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, but his overall physical skillset gives him perhaps the highest ceiling of any of the players in this class.

Sellers threw for 2,534 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his sophomore season, all while running for 674 yards and seven touchdowns. With a ballistic arm that is the strongest of any non-Allar prospect in this class, and his ability to make plays with his legs, he should appeal to Glenn and Tanner Engstrand.

Glenn clearly likes quarterbacks who can run, and Sellers' downfield accuracy could make him a player who can succeed in many of the same areas where Fields hasn't been able to throughout his pro career. If the Jets are drafting for upside, Sellers is the clear choice in a crowded non-Manning QB field.

While Fields still has a full season in front of him that he can use to prove he can be the quarterback the Jets have been looking for, all signs point to Glenn landing someone who could be his franchise guy if the former top pick is unable to continue improving.
