The NY Jets have ruled out five players for Week 3 including George Fant and Ashtyn Davis.

The NY Jets have officially ruled five players out for this Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts as the injuries continue to pile up for Gang Green.

And two of those players suffered injuries during practice this week.

Both starting right tackle George Fant and rookie safety Ashtyn Davis have been declared out for Week 3 after each of them left Wednesday’s practice early with injuries.

Fant suffered a concussion after colliding with a teammate while Davis hurt his groin. With the Jets are already one of the most injured teams in the NFL, they added a couple more to their growing list despite not playing an actual game since last Sunday.

With Fant out, the Jets are expected to start second-year offensive tackle Chuma Edoga at right tackle. A third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Edoga took over for Brandon Shell last season starting eight games, primarily at right tackle.

However, his 48.9 Pro Football Focus grade ranked him as one of the worst offensive linemen in the NFL in 2019.

As for Davis, the Jets will likely turn over the regular kick return duties to Josh Malone while defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will have to make some adjustments on defense.

If Williams wants to run with a three-safety package, his options will now be limited to Matthias Farley or the recently-signed Marqui Christian.

The NY Jets will also be without three others who were injured before this week’s practices.

The Jets will also be without cornerback Quincy Wilson in the secondary after he suffered a concussion in the team’s 31-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Wilson received his first start with the Jets last week but didn’t even make it out of the first half before he was hurt and replaced by Pierre Desir, the same player he supplanted in the starting lineup.

Look for Desir to get the call again opposite Blessuan Austin, especially with Nate Hairston questionable with a hip injury. Don’t be surprised if the Jets temporarily promote undrafted cornerback Javelin Guidry from the practice squad either.

Finally, the Jets will be down two receivers with both Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman out for Sunday. Crowder will sit out for the second consecutive week while Perriman will miss Week 3 after injuring his ankle this past Sunday.

Braxton Berrios is also listed as questionable with, you guessed it, a hamstring injury meaning that the only healthy receivers the Jets have heading into Week 3 are Chris Hogan and the aforementioned Josh Malone.

Expect a practice-squad promotion of some kind, likely in the form of undrafted receiver Lawrence Cager.
