The NY Jets have had a very close eye on wide receiver Henry Ruggs III at the NFL Combine. Here are all the details and what it all could mean on draft day.

With the NFL Combine in full gear, we are starting to hear rumors about which players have piqued the interests of teams across the league.

One player that has started to buzz with the NY Jets is Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III.

This is one of the first times that these two have been linked this offseason. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, “the Jets have had their eyes on him for a while.”

The NY Jets brass spoke to the media at the NFL Combine and shared some interesting nuggets that stood out.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas:

“We need explosive guys. We need explosive, dynamic playmakers.”

Gang Green head coach Adam Gase referenced on several occasions that there are an array of “speed threats” in this 2020 NFL Draft.

There isn’t a player in the 2020 NFL Draft that is more explosive, more dynamic, and quite frankly faster than Henry Ruggs III.

2017: 12 receptions for 229 yards and six touchdowns (averaged 19.1 yards per catch).

2018: 46 receptions for 741 yards and 11 touchdowns (averaged 16.1 yards per catch).

2019: 40 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns (averaged 18.7 yards per catch).

Consider this his numbers could be even greater if he wasn’t sharing the rock with a few other future NFL pros like Jerry Jeudy, Devonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle.

The NFL Combine 40 yard dash record is 4.22 which was just recently set by wide receiver John Ross of the Cincinnati Bengals.

People around the Alabama program have whispered that Ruggs III could break that record this week at the NFL Combine.

One story from the offseason suggested that Henry recorded a 4.25 40 yard dash with apparently “a bad start.” If that’s true, buckle in your seatbelts because we could be in for quite a show.

Currently, his NFL Draft stock is floating around the middle of the first round. Ruggs has drawn comparisons to Tyreek Hill who is one of the most explosive players in the NFL today. Here’s the even better news, Henry Ruggs III has the talent of Tyreek Hill without any of the character concerns.

Ruggs III could be a dark horse option for the NY Jets at 11 or in a possible trade back scenario in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
