NY Jets star safety Jamal Adams is already on the recruiting trail for superstar edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue. Here are all the details.
Last year, NY Jets superstar safety Jamal Adams took it upon himself to start recruiting players to his team in free agency.
With his help Gang Green was able to catch one of the biggest free agency fishes in 2019, All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell.
Well, this week Jamal was back to his old tricks on social media attempting to butter up Jacksonville Jaguars star edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue.
Here’s the scoop.
The NY Jets currently hold over $60 million in cap space (with the ability to create more if they so choose).
Yannick Ngakoue is a 24-year old superstar pass rusher that is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time this March.
In four seasons with the Jags, Yannick has collected 37.5 sacks, 85 quarterback hits, 14 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, has played in 63 out of 64 possible games, and has collected 122 combined tackles.
These are the kinds of players the Jets should be investing in during the free agency period.
So how much will he cost in free agency?
His “market value” per Spotrac is $17.1 million per season on a five-year deal which in total accounts for nearly $86 million.
That would make him the 32nd highest-paid player in the league and the fifth highest-paid defensive end overall.
This past season the NY Jets got an up-close and personal look at the soon-to-be-free-agent during the team’s matchup vs the Jaguars.
Yannick finished with two sacks, two quarterback hits, two tackles, and two tackles for loss. Perhaps instead of hitting the NY Jets franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold, the team can sign him so he can beat up the other quarterbacks in the NFL.
The legal tampering period begins on March 16 and the official start of the new league year is on March 18.
