New York Jets: ‘It wouldn’t be shocking’ if Jamal Adams is dealt at deadline
By Paul A. Esden Jr.
Everything is now on the table including New York Jets safety Jamal Adams. Here are the full details on that report and what it all means.
After a report broke on Tuesday morning that the New York Jets would be open to dealing Pro Bowl running back Le’Veon Bell, a new report has surfaced that’s even bigger.
Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, “pretty much everything is on the table for the Jets including Jamal Adams.”
This is a startling report that will drop jaws around Jets Nation. Per the Cimini report, only two players are considered untouchable at this point: quarterback Sam Darnold and No. 3 overall pick Quinnen Williams.
Outside of those two players, anyone can be had for the right price.
Connor Hughes of The Athletic confirmed as much:
“The potential Jets and Le’Veon Bell trade is just an example that everyone outside of the quarterback position has a price. If a team is willing to pay it, anyone can be dealt.”
The past few hours have been hard to bear for Jets fans.
Before the season started there was optimism that this team could be in the hunt for at least a wildcard spot. A lot of that was fueled by the offseason activity by the team. The Jets spent $122 million on a variety of pieces to put this team in the mix.
Now eight weeks into the season, the Jets are a woeful 1-6 with little to no chance of ending their nine-year playoff drought.
That has caused an identity change in the front office with the team going from all-in to all-out.
While it’s clear the Jets need more draft capital to accelerate their rebuild, getting rid of Le’Veon Bell or Jamal Adams would be a massive mistake.
Adams is 24-years old and has been a home run selection both on and off the field for the green and white.
To trade him would make no sense, regardless of what trade package you could get in return.
If you’re curious about the type of compensation that would be necessary to pull off such a deal it would have to be Jalen Ramsey territory.
The 25-year old All-Pro was recently dealt for two future first-round draft picks and a fourth-rounder to the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite how tempting that would be, the Jets should take a hard pass and put Jamal Adams on their list of untouchable players. He’s not only one of the best safeties in the game, but he’s also the heartbeat of this New York Jets organization.
Rich Cimini also tweeted out that “Jamal Adams is a hot name right now and it wouldn’t shock him if he gets dealt” ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
The current favorite to land Jamal Adams would be the Dallas Cowboys, per Ian Rapoport. The package in return would be “massive.”
