The New York Jets and the New York Giants could make history this week. Here’s how that could happen with Leonard Williams ahead of the trade deadline.

Another team has entered the mix for New York Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams, the New York Giants.

On the Sunday FOX NFL pregame show, Jay Glazer reported that the Jets and Giants are talking deal ahead of the deadline.

Apparently Big Blue is very interested in adding Leonard Williams to the fold and keeping him long term.

This would be historic on many levels.

The crosstown rivals have never traded with each other. A few times over the last several years they’ve been close.

Back in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Jets tried trading up with the New York Giants when Laremy Tunsil

started to slip, but Big Blue told the green and white to shove it because their offer wasn’t good enough.

Also, an underlying storyline is that the Giants are “oversensitive” to the perception that they “allowed” the Jets to find their franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold by passing on him a few years back, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Feel free to keep this in mind as well, the Jets didn’t even call the Giants who were ahead of them in that draft partly because the two teams share a media market.

Glazer seemed to indicate that the teams are talking and we’ll see if that materializes into a deal. The New York Jets are looking for future draft compensation.

Here’s what the Giants have to offer:

  • 2020 1st round pick.
  • 2020 2nd round pick.
  • 2020 3rd round pick.
  • 2020 4th round pick.
  • 2020 5th round pick.
  • 2020 6th round pick.
  • They own 2 2020 7th round picks.

With so many teams seemingly interested in Leonard Williams, perhaps the Jets can get even more back for him in a bidding war.

On Sunday morning Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets would be one of the most active teams at the NFL trade deadline. The Dallas Cowboys were talking with the Jets about Leonard Williams until they were about to get Michael Bennett from the New England Patriots on the cheap.

Williams is in the last year of his deal and while to the fans he’s been incredibly disappointing with his low sack total, he’s actually really impressed NFL teams across the league with his ability to eat double teams and his run-stopping prowess.
