Who are the most important Jets for 2019?
By William Snell Jr.
Who are the most important New York Jets players for the 2019 season? Here are our picks for the top three.
The 2019 New York Jets will be a completely different roster from last season. From adding Le’Veon Bell, to bringing Adam Gase on board, the Jets are primed for a bounce back year. With that being said, this upcoming seasons success will depend on three different Jets starting in August.
The Jets offensive production last season was below average, and in turn caused a tremendous amount of stalled drives. The answer to flipping this switch, and converting on 3rd down is Le’Veon Bell. The Jets big ticket pickup is going to be the answer to ending the Jets missed 3rd down conversions. His ability as a receiver will allow Sam Darnold to keep drives alive.
The Jets desperately needed a playmaker out of the backfield to put together longer, more point scoring drives. Along with Bell’s ability to make plays as a receiver, he opens up the Jets playbook in a huge way. The threat he poses will give Adam Gase much more leeway when it comes to taking the top off of defenses through the passing game. The Jets running game last season simply did not cut it, and adding Bell will give the gang green much longer, sustainable drives.
Right alongside Bell in the backfield, Sam Darnold’s progression in his sophomore campaign could make or break this season in Florham Park. Darnold put together an amazing rookie season considering the lack of weapons that surrounded him. This year, he is going to have to progress and make the most out of his new teammates on offense.
While Bell answers many of the questions concerning stalled drives, it’s ultimately up to Darnold to get the ball down the field. There’s no question Darnold will get more opportunities out of Gase’s playbook, but it’s completely on 14 to make the most of his opportunities.
Lastly, on the other side of the ball, New York will have to rely on Jamal Adams yet again. Anybody that has even remotely followed the Jets these past few years can clearly answer that 33 is the leader on this team. Adding weapons like Bell and linebacker C.J. Mosely will certainly make an impact, but it’s up to Jamal Adams to make it all click.
The team chemistry comes from leaders within the locker room, and Adams is 100% the leader new players turn to. Others make the argument that it’s up to the head coach to make the team mesh, but without a player like Adams, Coach Gase isn’t gonna create any chemistry.
When we close the chapter on this next season, we are gonna look back on the impact of these three players as to whether the Gang Green made the most out of this season or not. There’s plenty of pressure on the new coaching staff in town, but ultimately these three will write their story in 2019.
