The New York Jets have a superstar in the making in safety Jamal Adams. Just two years into the NFL, Adams has asserted himself as one of the best safeties in the league. Pro Football Focus revealed their annual Top 25 under 25 players list recently and Adams was honored as one of the top players in the league under the age of 25. The sky is the limit for arguably the most important player on the Jets defense.

The New York Jets have a superstar in the making on their roster according to Pro Football Focus. PFF recently released their annual Top 25 players under the age of 25, and Jets safety Jamal Adams made the list. Adams is entering his third season in the NFL and is already the heart and soul of the Jets defense.

Adams took a giant step forward in 2018, improving his quarterback pressure rate (13.7% in 2017, 28.1% in 2018) and passer rating allowed (124.7 in 2017, and 67.3 in 2018). According to PFF, Adams earned a grade of 77 or above in run defense, tackling, pass rushing, and coverage. Adams was also a 2018 PFF NFL All-Pro team selection as he recorded the most total defensive stops with 44.

Adams had to carry a heavy load in the defensive secondary last year, as the Jets were hit hard with injuries (Marcus Maye, Morris Claiborne, Trumaine Johnson). However, no matter what the supporting cast looked like around him, Adams came to play every week and earned a trip to his first of hopefully many Pro Bowls. The Jets secondary is arguably the team’s biggest issue coming into 2019, but with Adams back there as the heart and soul of the defense, the secondary should be alright.

The two lines of defense in front of Adams should be better too. Linebacker C.J. Mosley patrolling the middle of the field and rookie Quinnen Williams and Leonard Williams applying pressure on quarterbacks. Expect the Jets defense to improve in 2019 with their moves in free agency and the NFL Draft.
