Fantasy Football Week 14: Rivers, Winston and other must starts

Here’s the Week 14 edition of top five quarterbacks to start in fantasy football.

It’s officially that time of the year. Well, for most people. Of course, that is referring to fantasy football playoffs.

Thankfully, last week wasn’t that beginning because the Week 13 edition of top five quarterbacks to start didn’t go well. Only two of the listed players finished as top 10 scorers in ESPN PPR standard scoring leagues.

Patrick Mahomes led all quarterbacks in the NFL with 33 fantasy points thanks to four passing scores. Russell Wilson was the third-highest scoring signal caller with his 24.8 points.

Cam Newton gathered 15.3, Andrew Luck was held to 9.5 and Jared Goff only scrapped together 8.1. Let’s hop into this week’s list.

5. Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Could this be too much of a gamble? Possibly to some. However, Jameis Winston could have a big day in Week 14.

Yes, the Bucs quarterback situation has been up and down all year. Winston had to sit and watch Ryan Fitzpatrick play very well during his suspension.

Since then, the Buccaneers have interchanged the two based on performance. But Winston is the clear-cut number one after his past two weeks.

Winston has scored 20+ over the past two games without throwing a pick. This week the Bucs play the New Orleans Saints, a team that has seen their secondary struggle.

4. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers went into Pittsburgh and left with a huge statement win over the Steelers. The team clawed their way to a comeback, 33-30 win.

The Chargers are now 9-3, one game behind the Kansas City Chiefs. Philip Rivers has played a big role in getting the team this far.

Rivers racked up 24 points during that Week 13 win. He threw for 299 yards and two scores.

This week the Chargers play the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have been one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

3. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Mike McCarthy was kicked to the curb following yet another abysmal game during the Green Bay Packers loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home. The team sits 4-7-1.

One of the biggest reasons for McCarthy’s firing is the lackluster playcalling for Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers owners have been pulling their hair out due to his down fantasy days.

The past two weeks, Rodgers has a combined two passing scores and 27.2 points. Yes, that is awful for his standards.

This week, the Packers host one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons come in at 4-8, as well as 25 passing touchdowns surrendered to opposing QBs.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs just keep on rolling. Their high-powered offense didn’t skip a beat with the absence of former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt.

Mahomes led the offense with his four passing touchdowns, which resulted in 33 points. He also used his legs with nine rushes for 52 yards during the team’s win over the Oakland Raiders.

The best part about Mahomes is that the Chiefs aren’t in a position to rest players down the stretch. The Chargers are right behind them in the division.

This week the Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have been a good pass defense, but the Chiefs are a whole different beast.

1. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Yes, the bad night the New Orleans Saints had against the Dallas Cowboys to kick off Week 13 has been well talked about. People have seemingly written Drew Brees off as an MVP candidate as well.

Of course, whenever anyone only scores 7.3 points it’s alarming. But that shouldn’t be the case with Brees.

The Saints were due for one of these games, and the Cowboys prepared extremely well. Brees and the Saints are due for a bounce-back game against the Buccaneers.
