With Sam Darnold out due to injury, backup Josh McCown has an opportunity to be the leader that that has the offense moving.

It has been a tough stretch for the New York Jets offense after that explosive performance against the Denver Broncos a few weeks ago. Now, a familiar face will be returning later on today, as Josh McCown will be starting in place of Sam Darnold who is battling a foot injury.

Many people feel that it could go either way of him being successful or him having a horrific game. McCown will have to find a way to get this offense going as it is ranked 29th in the league with no signs of hope.

McCown hasn’t thrown a pass since last season when he went 5-8 before going down to a season-ending injury. This is a chance for him to show that he has the ability to still play in the league at 39-years-old.

The veteran presence he brings to the team has a lot of the players believing in him, and his ability to lead them to victory like he did in the past. He will have a tough test because most of the Jets top offensive players are banged up and are playing through injury. One of his favorite targets Robby Anderson is doubtful for Sunday with a ankle injury.

McCown still has plenty of targets to throw to in Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, Chris Herndon, Elijah McGuire, and Isaiah Crowell.

He has to help the team push the football and be fast and keep the Bills defense on its toes and keep them guessing. When McCown started for the team, it seemed like it was more uptempo which kept opponents confused, and wore them down.

This is an area McCown excels in thanks to all the experience he’s earned over his long career. He can provide that much-needed spark to the Jets offense and get them out of their current slump, especially in front of the home crowd in MetLife Stadium.

Sunday is a chance for McCown to be able to help this offense get back to being successful and be consistent again. It all starts with them being successful under center to make wise decisions and keep those chains moving. This is where McCown can come in and at least put the Jets in a position to win heading into their bye next week.
