Heading into Week 10 fantasy football, it would a smart move for fantasy football owners to sit New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse as he takes on the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.
After signing with the New York Jets prior to the start of the 2017 season, veteran wide receiver Jermaine Kearse performed well for Gang Green, playing in all 16 games while totaling 65 receptions for 810 yards and five touchdowns.
Unfortunately, that success has not transferred over to the 2018 campaign, as the 28-year-old Kearse has struggled quite a bit throughout the season thus far. Throughout nine weeks, Kearse has played in eight games while totaling only 22 catches for 215 yards and no touchdowns.
The Jets’ offense has changed quite a bit since last season and this drop off in production for Kearse could be triggered by multiple factors. First and foremost, the Jets have brought in rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, who’s started each regular season game thus far. Perhaps Kearse and Darnold have yet to form a connection.

It’s also important to note the return of fellow wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who missed all of the 2017 season with an injury. Upon his return this year, it became evident quickly that he would be Darnold’s top target. In addition, tight end Chris Herndon, who was drafted in the fourth round of last April’s draft, has begun to emerge and, he too has received a bit of action.
Ultimately, however, the reality is this: Kearse simply hasn’t performed well in 2018. He’s coming off of a poor performance against the Miami Dolphins last week in which he had three catches for only 20 yards. And on one play, it appeared as if Kearse caught a ball while already standing out of bounds, showing an unacceptable lack of field awareness at that moment.
It is important to note that veteran Josh McCown will be getting the start under center this week for the Jets due to a foot injury suffered by Darnold, so perhaps Kearse will thrive more in that environment. However, his performance throughout the season thus far in addition to the fact that the Bills actually have a somewhat strong pass defense doesn’t provide much hope. It’d be smart for fantasy football owners to sit Kearse this week.
