Fantasy Football Week 10: Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan and other must starts

Here’s the Week 10 edition of top 5 quarterbacks to start in fantasy football.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Week 10 of the NFL season is already here. Hard to believe right?

Well, don’t get caught up thinking how the season is coming to a close, rather re-focus on fantasy football. Last week’s edition of top five signal callers to start in fantasy football saw four players finish as top 10 scorers in ESPN PPR standard scoring leagues.

Jared Goff was the highest scoring QB on the list with his 29.3 fantasy points. Patrick Mahomes came away with 26.8, Cam Newton had 21.2 and Deshaun Watson gathered 20.3.

Kirk Cousins was the only player to finish outside of that top 10, as he only racked up 6.9. With that, let’s take a look at this week’s top five.

5. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

Look out, because the Los Angeles Chargers are starting to get hot. Led by Philip Rivers, the team has ripped off five wins in a row.

The Chargers have done a great job of surrounding Rivers with many weapons. Players such as Melvin Gordon, Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and Tyrell Williams.

Yeah, that’s a ton. Rivers is coming of a 17.1 day with 228 yards and two passing scores. He and the Chargers play the depleted Oakland Raiders this week.

Oakland has surrendered 18 passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks so far this season. Rivers will add on to that tally, so slot him into your lineup.

4. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan, like Rivers, needs to be getting more love. They both are having quiet, yet dominant years.

Ryan’s 19 touchdowns tie him with Rivers for fourth-most in the NFL. Both QBs also only have three picks.

The Falcons signal caller had 28 points in Week 9. He threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns.

Ryan now gets set to face the Cleveland Browns, a team that is in disarray. Don’t let the Browns defensive stats scare you away from starting Matty Ice.

3. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Don’t ask Drew Brees about father time, because he will point to his team’s record and his stat sheet. The New Orleans Saints are coming off a big win against the Los Angeles Rams, and Brees has thrown for 18 scores and one lone interception.

Brees was the highest scoring quarterback in Week 9 with his 31.4 points. He piled up 346 yards and four touchdowns.

The Saints Week 10 game with the Cincinnati Bengals is a highly favorable matchup. The Bengals have allowed 18 touchdown throws to the opposition’s quarterbacks.

Week 9’s Saints win turned into a shootout. This week’s game against the Bengals may turn out to be the same.

This is the last NFC South signal caller on the list, as Cam Newton comes in at number two. Newton and his Carolina Panthers are one game behind the division-leading Saints with their 6-2 record.

Newton and the Panthers have won three straight and they’re 5-0 at home. He had a solid Week 9 performance with 21.2 points.

Newton threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns. This week the Panthers play the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road.

The Steelers have allowed 17 passing touchdowns, but it’s the legs of Newton that make him more of a threat. Lock Newton in.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Yes, the continued trend of Patrick Mahomes being either number one or two continues. But really, how could you not have him up there?

Mahomes has thrown for a league-leading 29 touchdowns, which is six more than the second place QB Andrew Luck. Mahomes has made the NFL his playground.

After not throwing one in his first five games, Mahomes has thrown at least one pick in each game since. However, when you’re throwing points on the board it doesn’t really matter.
