Heading into Week 6 fantasy football, New York Jets running back Bilal Powell is a must-start against the Indianapolis Colts.

Unfortunately for Week 6 action, the New York Jets are a little hurt when it comes to their running back situation. Running back Isaiah Crowell is dealing with an ankle injury he sustained during practice this week. While it’s likely he’ll play in today’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, when it comes to fantasy football, it’s never a good idea to start a running back that is nursing such an injury. This bodes well for those that have running back Bilal Powell on their fantasy football teams.

This is the biggest reason why, Crowell’s partner in crime is worth starting in Week 6 fantasy football. Powell has yet to score a rushing touchdown this season and has been regulated to backup duties behind the power running of Crowell.

As always when it comes to football and starters dealing with an injury, it’s the “next man up” strategy. Powell should see a major increase in touches this week and should score at least a touchdown or two thanks to everything he brings to the table.

Not only is Powell a legitimate rushing threat, but he doubles up his fantasy points by being a strong receiving option out of the backfield. If there is any week to start Powell, it’s this one as the Colts are a team that doesn’t have a stout defense at all.

Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates will likely develop today’s gameplan with Powell being a focal point on offense. It’s easy to see Bates using Powell to his strengths and have him be a versatile playmaker that can keep those chains moving in a multitude of ways.

Start Powell this week and don’t even think twice about it. This is a highly favorable matchup in which Powell will make the most out of the extra reps coming his way with Crowell likely to see limited action today due to his ankle injury.
