Fantasy Football: Top 5 sleeper picks to consider in Week 4
By Genna Preston
Heading into Week 4 fantasy football, here are the top five sleeper picks to consider starting that are entering favorable matchups.
Welcome to Week 4 of fantasy football. This season is quickly erupting whether your top pick has been injured, your bust pick has been more of a boom or vice versa.
We have our first two bye week teams: the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins. Sleepers are your best bet for players like Cam Newton and Adrian Peterson.
We also enter Week 4 with some substantial injuries. Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the season and players like LeSean McCoy and Alshon Jeffery are listed questionable. Meanwhile, Le’Veon Bell still isn’t playing.
You’re going to need some fantasy football fillers. Take a risk with some of this week’s top fantasy football sleepers. Based on weekly matchups, projected points, and past performances, I have identified five sleeper options heading into Week 4. Here are the top picks.
5. O.J. Howard, TE Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Explosive tight ends are hard to come by in fantasy football. O.J. Howard has proven to be explosive given the right matchup.
In his last two games, he has earned double-digit points. Last week, Howard completed 6-of-8 passes for a little over 70 yards.
With Howard totaling over 220 passing yards so far this season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will continue to utilize his talents no matter who their starting quarterback is on Sunday afternoon.
Howard prepares to take on the Chicago Bears, whose defense is just average. This is the week we possible see Howard earn close to 20 fantasy points, he’s worth the risk.
Next: 4. This receiver has a new quarterback on the field
4. Antonio Callaway, WR Cleveland Browns
Antonio Callaway had almost 20 fantasy football points in Week 2. As we entered Week 3, Callaway was expected to have a repeat performance.
Unfortunately, that time never came. He completed 10-of-20 passes for a measly 20 yards. However, this week offers Callaway an entirely new outlook on the field.
Baker Mayfield will be starting in the Oakland Raiders Week 4 matchup. With Mayfield starting, Calloway will be able to take advantage of an aggressive passing game.
Not to mention, the Raiders weak defense rank 21st against the position. Callaway is worth taking a risk on in this Week 4 matchup.
Next: 3. He looks to have repeat touchdowns
3. Javorius Allen, RB Baltimore Ravens
Javorius Allen has consistently earned double-digit fantasy football points this season. Last week, Allen had only nine touches for seven yards. He also added 19 passing yards and two touchdowns to the game.
Allen hasn’t topped 40 yards total this season. You are probably thinking this is a bad choice, but his catching capabilities increase his fantasy football value.
Allen is a touchdown-dependent player. However, his talents and versatility make him a threat in the red zone.
The Pittsburgh Steelers rank fifth against the position, but once Allen finds the end zone it will be over. Take a chance with Allen, as he offers true fantasy football sleeper value in Week 4.
Next: 2. This quarterback is shocking everyone
2. Ryan Tannehill, QB Miami Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill is looking like a new quarterback this season. After missing last season due to a knee injury, he enters the 2018 season on fire.
In his last 11 games, Tannehill is 10-1. Not to mention, he’s earned 20 or more fantasy football points in his last two matchups.
This week, Tannehill takes on his division rivals the New England Patriots. In his last four matchups against the Patriots, he’s completed at least 300 passing yards and had multiple touchdowns in two of those games.
The Patriots have also allowed over 630 passing yards, two interceptions and six touchdowns in the last two weeks. On paper, Tannehill is expecting to earn 20 points in this week’s game.
Next: 1. Can he have back-to-back 100 yard games?
1. Kerryon Johnson RB, Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions hadn’t had a running back to complete over 100 running yards since 2013. That was until Kerryon Johnson dominated last week’s game.
Johnson had 101 yards on 16 carries during the Lions victory over the Patriots. In some leagues, he earned over 30 fantasy football points.
Johnson has proven himself and LeGarrette Blount doesn’t seem to be affecting his reps. Last week, Johnson and Blount finished with the same number of snaps but, Johnson could be working his way toward lead back.
Sunday’s matchup will offer some difficulties, as the Dallas Cowboys are only surrendering 3.4 yards per carry. However, Johnson is projected to earn 20-25 points. Take a chance with him in Week 4.
