The New York Jets took care of business in their epic Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Here’s a breakdown of so many positives from this victory.

New York Jets fans were very happy about Monday nights performance. There were so many positives to talk about, it’s hard to not have a huge smile after such a dominating performance. Let’s break down all the main positive takeaways from this Week 1 matchup.

Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold’s debut could not have started off worse. QBs are taught to not throw the ball across the opposite end of the field after rolling to the other direction and that is what Darnold did which lead to him throwing a pick-six on his first career pass. However, he was sensational after that, completing 16 of 20 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns and no further turnovers. The rookie’s ability to maintain his confidence and bounce back like that was very impressive.

Running game

The Jets running game was excellent in Week 1. The two lead running backs, Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell, combined for 162 rushing yards on just 22 carries. If these two can form one of the league’s best running back duos, it would be a huge boost to the Jets offense and a big help to Darnold’s continued development.

More from The Jet Press

Quincy Enunwa

He’s back! After missing an entire season, Enunwa showed up in his first game back, catching 6 passes for 63 yards and scoring a touchdown where he was very impressive after the catch.

Playcalling

Monday night was Jeremy Bates debut as the Jets offensive coordinator. The Jets playcalling was very creative, often putting Enunwa and other receivers in motion pre-snap confused the opposing defense. Additionally, I liked the designed Darnold run on third down which picked up the first down, talk about creativity!

Darron Lee

Darron Lee was excellent Monday night. The former first-round pick started off his third season with seven tackles and two interceptions, one of which was a pick six. According to Pro Football Focus, Darron Lee was the highest graded defensive player in the ENTIRE league over Week 1 action. Jets fans should be very excited for Lee and what he’ll bring to the table from here on out.

The Jets season got off to a fantastic start, and they were without two key players in wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and safety Marcus Maye. Jets fans will hope the team can keep playing at this level on a daily basis.
