Get up-to-the-minute updates from tonight’s preseason Week 4 matchup between the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.
Tonight is the final game of the preseason for the New York Jets. The preseason finale is a time for players on the roster bubble to step up or ship out. The Jets will have to make some of the toughest decisions of the year as they prepare to have a final 53-man roster heading into the regular season.
The Jets already started the process as they just traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the New Orleans Saints along with a 6th Round draft pick for a 3rd Round draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft. This move not only adds some much-needed draft capital for next year but gives clarity to the Jets quarterback situation.
It’s expected that rookie quarterback Sam Darnold will start the regular season for the Jets and begin his era at the most important position on the team. The Jets not only believe Darnold is ready for the task at hand but could potentially turn the franchise into a contender sooner rather than later.
More from The Jet Press
- NY Jets: Why the team should target cornerback Shaquill Griffin
- NY Jets reportedly non-tendering linebacker Harvey Langi
- NY Jets: Why the team should not cut Jamison Crowder
- NY Jets should try to sign Kenny Golladay in free agency
- NY Jets: Jonnu Smith would be a smart free-agent target
It remains to be seen if general manager Mike Maccagnan is done wheeling and dealing trades as there are some rumors that the Jets are doing their due diligence in order to acquire linebacker Khalil Mack. If such a move turns into fruition, the Jets could legitimately become a playoff contender this upcoming season. Either way, tonight’s focus shifts on ending the preseason on a high note and leaving the city of brotherly love without any major injuries.

LTJ: Jets lost by one point as now the real preparation begins for the season ahead. Roster cuts will start happening on Saturday with the deadline being 4:00 p.m. ET. It will be very interesting to see what moves the Jets make between now and then.
And the Jets' defense allows its first TD of the preseason in the final minute of the final game. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Would have been a nice statistic to keep for the preseason of the Jets defense not allowing a single touchdown. Can the Jets run some plays to hit a game-winning FG?
Fourth takeaway of the night courtesy of @belegendary19. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/vcvAde2L0s
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Perfectly timed and good play by Jones. End this game already, fellas!
Derrick Jones with the goal-line INT. The scoreless preseason lives.
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Nice interception there by Jones, that’s interception numero tres!
Todd Bowles was HOT after that special teams penalty, yelling at someone on the sideline. #Jets get flagged for 12 men. Inexcusable and sloppy. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 31, 2018
LTJ: These penalties are going to define the Jets this season. Doesn’t matter what they do on the field, rack up enough penalties and you aren’t winning many football games. It’s as simple as that.
Taylor Bertolet makes his first FG attempt of the night.#Jets 9, #Eagles 3. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/fpmvPJGLtm
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Another FG on the night by the Jets but this time by Bertolet. Jets can end this with a win and everyone can go to bed happy tonight.
One more quarter until it counts. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/cqU8snTfe8
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: One more to go! Just like most people watching this game, we all can’t wait for it to be over and get ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
Wilcox with the forced fumble of Hackenberg and Cooper on the recovery. Third takeaway for the Jets defense. #NYJvsPHI
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: After this game, I’m pretty sure Hackenberg won’t have a final roster spot as many teams will realize once and for all, he’s not even good as a third-string backup.
Jason Myers kicks a 43-yard field goal for the Jets making the score 6-3 with 2:58 remaining in the third quarter. Now, if the defense can only hold 'em!
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 31, 2018
Jets QB John Wolford completes 10-yd pass to TE Clive Wolford—yes, Wolford to Walford—then an 8-yder to WR Chad Hansen to convert the 3rd down. Then Wolford suffers a strip sack, Eagles recovery at Jets 49.
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Wolford to Walford could be a thing. Maybe. Probably not.
Eagles K Jake Elliott nailed a 55-yard field goal with 11:30 to go in the third quarter. … It's 3-3. … I smell overtime!!!
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Please, oh please. Don’t let there be overtime. Eagles tie it up 3-3 in the 3rd quarter.
Headed to the break. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/1t6gjusMM7
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Yeah… it’s been that kind of a half. Jets are still up 3-0.
JJ Wilcox now with the pick of Hackenberg. #Jets
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Somebody get Hackenberg a cup of tea or something.
Wolford picked off on a throw down the sideline to Hansen. … Darnold's job is safe. #Jets
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 31, 2018
LTJ: Looks like Wolford will head back to his day job after tonight’s game.
John Wolford is now in at QB. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/yLSVHH9KBr
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Talk about an interesting opportunity to get Wolford’s name out there since one never knows when an opportunity comes knocking.
Juston Burris intercepts Christian Hackenberg. It's a marathon, not a race, as Hackenberg once said.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Huge smile from ear to ear!
Christian Hackenberg in the game. Brandon Copeland sacks him. Jets happy to see him. #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Let the HackenBowl begin!
One down. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/5fG2Si28fi
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Three more quarters to go go before the preseason is officially over.
Fifty-eight yards!@JayMy_31: NAILED IT. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/TscJmkpmpy
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: And with that Myers makes the team!
Jason Myers nails a 58-yard field goal. He almost certainly will be the Jets' field goal kicker.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Nice kick by Myers who will undoubtedly be getting a whole lot of work tonight.
Charone Peake with a drop tonight so far. Also a penalty. Roster bubble wide receiver.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Having the dropsies is a bad look when trying to make the final 53-man roster.
Josh McCown starting at QB for Jets tonight. His first PS action since opening sesries of PS opener vs ATL. His first drive: 3-and-out after just missing go-route connection with WR Charles Johnson.
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: This is going to be one of those games tonight. Expect to see a lot of punting thanks to a lot more miscues.
Josh McCown gets the start tonight in Philadelphia, behind the offensive line of (from left to right) Qvale, Braden, Swanson, Harrison, Dozier.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 30, 2018
LTJ: I hope the Jets bolster their offensive line big time next offseason and double down in free agency and the 2019 NFL Draft.
Jets' gamenight captains vs Eagles are DL Henry Anderson, OL Jonotthan Harrison & LS Thomas Hennessy.
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Some interesting choices here by the Jets for their team captains tonight.
Sam Darnold wearing a baseball cap. He's not playing tonight. Josh McCown looks like he'll start #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Hopefully it’ll be a series or two tops. No sense to get him hurt by playing him for any more than that.
https://twitter.com/nyjets/status/1035296922750394370
LTJ: A lot of players are fighting for their roster spots so it’ll be interesting to see which step up to prove their worth
Jets-Eagles kicking off at the Linc shortly after 7 pm ET. 18th consecutive PS meeting betw the green teams, tied for third-longest current NFL PS streak. Jets in green jerseys & white pants tonight. Weather: cloudy, mid-80s, light breeze. pic.twitter.com/13YujThyRK
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Talk about a beautiful night for football!
WR Quincy Enunwa participated in pre-game, so it looks like he could play. That surprises me. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Makes no sense to play Enunwa tonight to risk aggravating his neck or thumb injuries. Maybe it’s just to pre-game warmup?
Looks like Dakota Dozier will get the start at left tackle, with Brent Qvale at right tackle. Tackle depth a major concern. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 30, 2018
LTJ: The Jets offensive line is probably going to look like a hot mess tonight. Clearly, an area of opportunity to work on either before the regular season starts or a huge emphasis next offseason.
Hardly a shocker: Josh McCown and John Wolford split the QB reps in pre-game warmups. Sam Darnold a bystander. Very few starters expected to play. #NYJvsPHI
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 30, 2018
LTJ: I have a funny feeling either Wolford will play the entire game tonight. Highly doubt the Jets will risk McCown to injury in a meaningless preseason finale.
Josh + Carson + Sam. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/BOOjvcqeEH
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: They all have the same pose and look ready for the season ahead. I wonder what a conversation between these three quarterbacks would sound like?
Back in the city where @TheAdamsEra was drafted. #NYJvsPHI pic.twitter.com/iORnA00noy
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 30, 2018
LTJ: Talk about home away from home! Here’s to a great preseason finale and hopefully, a win for the Jets!
