Giants vs. Jets Live Tracker: Week 3 Preseason

Get up-to-the-minute updates from tonight’s preseason Week 3 matchup between the New York Giants and New York Jets.
It’s that time of year again! The Snoopy Bowl is upon us as the New York Jets welcome the New York Giants to MetLife Stadium for the battle of bragging rights. Every year, Gang Green goes up against Big Blue for the battle of New York with the winner earning the infamous Snoopy Trophy.
Make no mistake about it, it’s all about Sam Darnold tonight for the Jets. If he’s able to play lights out football and prove he’s ahead of the curve, he will undoubtedly make a very strong case to start the regular season under center. It’s expected that both Darnold and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will each get a half of action, just like last week in their preseason loss to the Washington Redskins.
It’s expected that starters will play the first half of tonight’s game against the Giants which should give an early glimpse at how far along first-team players are. Hopefully, they can cut back on the penalties that have continued to be a common theme all preseason long. The second half will feature a plethora of players that are trying to make a name for themselves as roster cuts are on the horizon.

LTJ: That first series of the game was exciting and easily brings hope that the Jets offense can indeed be decent this upcoming season. Darnold looked good as did a lot of the main offensive playmakers from Enunwa, Powell, and even Pryor. There had better be some serious accountability from Bowles about the ridiculous amount of penalties in this second straight preseason loss. Overall, the Jets have a lot of work to do with the regular season just a few weeks away.
Jets have 11 penalties for 98 yards. Todd Bowles will be in a great mood after the game. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Just absolutely ridiculous. Just when you didn’t think it could get any worse, that just happened.
.@JayMy_31 connects for his first FG as a Jet.
1-score game with 2:54 left. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/MNwhNeck6t
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Nice drive there by Bridgewater but the end result was just a field goal. Not good considering they were in the red zone but it is what it is.
CB Rashard Robinson (hip) is questionable to return. #NYGvsNYJ
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
Marshall Koehn kicks a 44-yard FG to give #Giants a 22-13 lead over #Jets
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Not looking good for the Jets as this game is getting behind them quickly.
Jets CB Rashard Robinson is hurt and now limping off the field.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 25, 2018
LTJ: First big injury of the night. Hopefully, Robinson is okay after medical testing.

LTJ: Fourth quarter time! Here’s to the Jets pulling a win in the Snoopy Bowl.
Teddy Bridgewater enters the game at QB. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/lemKXn6Uyr
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: He’s been the talk of trade rumors all week so let’s see what The Comeback Kid does here with the Jets down by 6.
Sam Darnold remains at QB to start the 2nd half. #NYGvsNYJ
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Smart decision here by the Jets as it’s best to give him as much experience as needed. Looks like he’ll be the starter for the regular season at this rate.

— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: The Jets lost that focus and aggression after their first opening touchdown drive. At the half, they have to tighten up on special teams and please, for the love of all that is good, enough with the penalties.
Can't…stop…watching https://t.co/zloIGw1iH9
— Sports Illustrated (@SInow) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Wow. Just wow.
The Jets have nine penalties for 71 yards. Bowles might have them running gassers in the parking lot at halftime. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Cimini is right as Bowles should rightfully be furious and throwing chairs against the walls or something at the half. All these penalties are embarrassing.
Jets called for an illegal double-team block on the kickoff. Brutal special teams performance
— Al Iannazzone (@Al_Iannazzone) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Words can’t properly describe my rage at this point in time with all these penalties racking up. The scary part? It’s just the first half.
Jets special teams … Ugh … RB Trent Cannon fumbles the kickoff return on a brutal hit by LB Ray-Ray Armstrong. Looked like he was horse collared from behind, though, just as he was hit.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Talk about another bad decision on special teams, Cannon coughs up a big turnover to put the Giants in an excellent position to score again.
13-13 tie here at MetLife Stadium. Another nail biter.
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 25, 2018
LTJ: All tied up in the Snoopy Bowl.
No forced fumble by Williamson, as call is overturned (Engram was down) – but #Jets LB having a good night.
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Figured it wasn’t a fumble since he looked down by contact. Still Giants football.
Rosas kicks a 48-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 3 for #giants, who trail #Jets 13-10.
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 25, 2018
LTJ: The Jets are now only up a field goal in the Snoopy Bowl. At least their kicker hit the shot that he needed to unlike someone on the Jets.
1st game as a Jet. 1st TD as a Jet. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/x7tXAiHUwR
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Big plays like this by Pryor should undoubtedly help his case to make the final roster of the Jets. Nice play here!
Terrelle Pryor with a 12-yard touchdown catch from Darnold. That's 2 TD passes for the #Jets' rookie QB.
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Wow, what a play by Darnold to Pryor. This is exactly what Pryor needed to prove he’s worth a roster spot. Nicely done!
Squared up. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/TdbOeRyGZj
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Good first quarter, so far. Both the Jets offense and defense looked good for the most part.
BIG CAT ON THE LOOSE. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/a249Zo2QdA
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Big Cat indeed!
Avery Williamson with the forced fumble and Leonard Williams recovers. Jets D forces a turnover, something that was lacking last year. #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 25, 2018
LTJ: After that big pass by Manning to say hello to New Jack City, this turnover couldn’t have happened at a better time. Good job by the Jets defense in what could have been another scoring drive by the Giants.
I guess the push ups aren't working. Penalties all over the place. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 25, 2018
LTJ: I second that. To be honest, this is a direct reflection on leadership. Head coach Todd Bowles has to either come up with something new or start having more accountability around penalties. Otherwise, this is going to be one big issue all season long in football games that actually count.
#Jets' special teams woes rears ugly head again … Hunter Sharp with a 55-yard punt return for a TD to tie it for the #Giants.
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 25, 2018
LTJ: Special teams needs a lot of work still. Can’t give up big plays like that during the regular season and expect to win football games.
Jets TE Eric Tomlinson not having a very good start. Two false start penalties in two drives. Plus some suspect blocking.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 25, 2018
LTJ: I see the penalties are still an issue for the Jets. Penalty pushups at the half?
BP TD. #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/1nTpt1YY4N
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 24, 2018
LTJ: What a beautiful run, excellent blocking, and amazing awareness to strike first on the scoreboard for the Jets!
Touchdown Powell from 10 yards out. Darnold's first drive against #Giants' starting D results in a TD.
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) August 24, 2018
LTJ: Great drive, solid run, this is such a refreshing change on offense to start this game off. Nice playcalling.
On 3rd and 13, Sam Darnold's pocket collapses, so he takes off for a 14-yard run. … Yeah, he's ready.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 24, 2018
LTJ: Wow, what a run! Completely agree with Vacchiano here, Darnold is one smart quarterback that looks like he’s ready for the real deal in just a few weeks.
Welcome back, @QuincyEnunwa! #NYGvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/El0jgC3CmF
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 24, 2018
LTJ: Something tells me we’ll be seeing a lot of Darnold to Enunwa in the end zone in 2018 quite a lot!
Enunwa's first catch since January 1, 2017. First down. #NYGvsNYJ
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 24, 2018
LTJ: Welcome back, Q! It’s great to see him back in action to shake off that rust. If healthy, Enunwa and Anderson will be one deadly combo this upcoming season.
Sam Darnold starts at QB for Jets. Darnold's only 3rd rookie QB to start in preseason vs Giants (Mark Sanchez '09, Geno Smith '13).
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 24, 2018
LTJ: Now is Darnold’s time to prove he can be the Week 1 starter. Expect to see him play the first half against starters.
Appears as though Charcandrick West won't play tonight. Jets just signed him today, so not a surprise. He hasn't even been assigned a number on the official roster.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 24, 2018
LTJ: I was surprised when the Jets announced earlier today they picked up running back Charcandrick West. It’s a good move considering the injuries already to Isaiah Crowell and McGuire.
Looks like the following Jets won't play tonight, based on warmups: Jermaine Kearse, Eli McGuire, Jeremy Clark, Xavier Coleman, Parry Nickerson, Rontez Miles, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Lucky Whitehead, Kendall Reyes, Steve McLendon.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 24, 2018
LTJ: An early look at other players on the Jets who likely won’t suit up tonight. Hopefully, we get to see Terrelle Pryor and Quincy Enunwa tonight
RB Elijah McGuire, S Rontez Miles and DT Steve McLendon are the only players listed as "not expected to play" tonight for the Jets.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 24, 2018
LTJ: I feel really bad for McGuire since he was one of the players I was hoping to take a big leap in his sophomore season. Hopefully, he’ll be back around the halfway point of the regular season.
Hey, @RealJoeNamath ? #NYGvsNYJ ?? pic.twitter.com/m7bdnAtrsk
— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 24, 2018
LTJ: It’s always great to see Broadway Joe in the house! Speaking of which, 2018 marks the 50 year anniversary of that incredible Super Bowl III victory over the Baltimore Colts. I can imagine the Jets are going to have a lot of festivities and events around this all season long.
