After a strong performance in the New York Jets Week 1 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons, Teddy Bridgewater gives the perfect answer on the current quarterback competition he’s a part of.

Wow, it sure is great to see a quarterback situation on the New York Jets that is actually a very good one, eh? One of which that is positive and puts the Jets in a direction to potentially be a competitor this upcoming season.

With a 17-0 Week 1 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Jets looked very good on offense. At this point in time, the quarterback competition featuring Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, and Sam Darnold continues to heat up. Of course, Darnold stole the show since fans in attendance couldn’t wait to see him play but it was Bridgewater that proved to the football world he’s still got it.

Bridgewater looked sharp under center in the reps he had on offense. He was hitting receivers in stride and resembled the quarterback he once was before a horrific knee injury sidelined him a few years ago. Seeing Bridgewater smile, execute, and just have fun on the gridiron was an amazing sight to see considering at one point it looked like he might never return to the sport he loved so much.

One of the biggest reasons why the Jets signed Bridgewater via free agency this offseason was his character. The truth of the matter is, the Jets knew whichever quarterback they would end up selecting in the 2018 NFL Draft would need high quality mentoring in order for them to succeed in the future.

Besides the great leadership and experience McCown brings to the table, Bridgewater also offers similar traits. Darnold entered a golden situation with the Jets since he’s surrounded by two top-notch veteran quarterbacks that are genuine and humble in order to make sure they all do their part to win as many football games as they can this upcoming season.

Bridgewater is still a big part of the current competition on the Jets to determine who the Week 1 starting quarterback will be. He continues to say and do all the right things with full support on whatever decision head coach Todd Bowles makes in regards to what the final depth chart will look like at the end of the training camp.

Courtesy of the Media Relations Department of the Jets, here is what Bridgewater said about if he appreciates what an unusual situation the Jets are in with three capable quarterbacks with the potential to be starters:

You definitely appreciate the situation that you’re in. Competition not only makes the team better, but it makes you better as an individual. At the end of the day, it’s not about Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, Josh McCown, it’s about the New York Jets. Whoever wants to give us the best chance to win football games. All of us have that mindset that we’re going to continue to make each other better every day, we’re going to lean on each other. At the end of the day we have the best interest at heart for this team. We’re excited about the room that we’re in. Talk about three guys who play in the National Football League, it’s a unique situation, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
