Here’s the full training camp profile of kicker Cairo Santos as he prepares to make his case to be a new starter for the New York Jets this upcoming season.
This offseason, kicker Chandler Catanzaro bolted via free agency to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New York Jets acted quickly and signed kickers Cairo Santos and Taylor Bertolet heading into training camp.
The open competition for the next starting kicker of the Jets will be an interesting one but by the looks of it, Santos should win thanks to everything he brings to the table. Compared to Bertolet, Santos has a lot more experience thanks to his four years of playing in the NFL.
Here’s a full profile on Santos as he prepares for his first training camp with the Jets.

2017 SEASON REVIEW
Last season, Santos saw time with two different teams in the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. Unfortunately, he dealt with a severe groin injury that sidelined him for most of the year. He enters training camp still recovering from it but is on his way to being healthy and ready to compete by the time it’s here.
2018 SEASON OUTLOOK
If the Jets keep Santos, he should prove to be a decent kicker capable of hitting field goals at various ranges. He has a career average of making a little over 84 percent of his field goals so he should be good to go for the Jets this upcoming season.
TRAINING CAMP PREDICTION
Expect to see Santos do well in training camp and beat out Bertolet. Santos will make the final roster of the Jets and be their newest kicker ready for a bounce-back season.
