Heading into his rookie training camp, New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon has a chance to make a name for himself.

New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon is presented with a chance to make an instant impact as a rookie. Herndon was selected in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Miami. He could be the Jets answer to their lack of production coming from the tight end position in years past.

2017 SEASON REVIEW

Herndon was having a good season as a Hurricane before a season-ending knee injury in the regular season finale. He was a vital cog to the program’s revival last year. He was the second-leading receiver on the team as a junior. Herndon had 40 catches for 447 yards and four touchdowns.

All were career highs for the tight end. Herndon was awarded by being second-team All-ACC. He was also a semifinalist for the nation’s top tight end.

2018 SEASON OUTLOOK

Herndon is presented with a great opportunity this upcoming season. The Jets lost tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins this offseason to free agency. Seferian-Jenkins was the team’s third-leading receiver with 50 receptions. His departure leaves a large void ready to be taken.

Herndon has two beatable competitors for the starting spot. Jordan Leggett, who struggles as a blocker and Eric Tomlinson who is not much of a receiving threat. Herndon has a great chance to win this key positional battle. The casual fan may not know him, but they will by season’s end.

TRAINING CAMP PREDICTION

If Herndon can seize the moment, he will be the Jets starting tight end in Week 1. The position is as wide open as any position on the depth chart. Herndon should develop chemistry with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold once his era begins under center. Jets fans should get used to the name Chris Herndon. Prediction is that he will earn the spot and put together a fairly decent campaign in his rookie season.
