Wide receiver Devin Smith is on the outside looking in as things aren’t looking so good for him as he prepares for training camp with the New York Jets.

It’s an unfortunate situation for promising wide receiver Devin Smith and what is likely the end of his tenure with the New York Jets. Injuries have and always will be a part of professional football as ever since he was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, he hasn’t lived up to the high expectations from his collegiate career at Ohio State. Mostly due to missing significant amounts of time due to injuries.

Smith has been hit with injury after injury dating back to his rookie season where it only got progressively worse over the past few years. Last season, Smith tore his ACL for the second time in his career as this could spell the end for him and the Jets.

When it comes to proving your worth in the pros, it’s all about what you do on the gridiron. Unfortunately for Smith, he has such a small sample size of actual playing time, that it’s unlikely the Jets will keep him around all training camp long.

2017 SEASON REVIEW

Smith missed all of last year with a torn ACL injury.

2018 SEASON OUTLOOK

Things aren’t bright at all for Smith as the Jets stocked up big time when it comes to their wide receiver corps. They’ll likely keep five, maybe six tops for the positional group as the competition will be stiff and spots being earned quickly since it’s a talented yet unproven group.

TRAINING CAMP PREDICTION

Expect to see Smith cut either at the start of training camp or during it since it’s unlikely he’ll be able to be a full participant due to his torn ACL injury of last year. Smith will not make the final roster of the Jets.
