Wide receiver Charone Peake has the odds against him as he prepares for his third season with the New York Jets and recovers from a severe ankle injury he suffered in 2017.
So far this offseason, the New York Jets stocked up on wide receivers to ensure that they have the right offensive talent for the eventual era of Sam Darnold. There is also some uncertainty in the positional group due to either off the field distractions or concerns about injury. Hence why the Jets went above and beyond and brought in a plethora of wide receivers this offseason.
If everything falls into place, the Jets depth chart will likely have five or six wide receivers tops heading into the upcoming season. Expect to see Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, and Chad Hansen likely earn their roster spots once training camp is in the books.
That right there leaves possibly a spot or two tops for others in the positional group to prove their worth and make the Jets keep them around for the future. Players like ArDarius Stewart and Charone Peake are easily on the roster bubble due to a lack of play or injury.

For Peake, he’s currently on the outside looking in at this point in time. Peake has yet to score his first touchdown in the pros as in his rookie season back in 2016, only totaled 186 receiving yards, 19 receptions, and 9.8 yards per catch. In 2017, Peake was hit with an ankle injury that ended his season early on and any opportunity to grow in his sophomore campaign.
Hopefully, Peake is able to fully compete in training camp as the odds are currently against him. He can’t afford to miss any time due to not being at 100 percent with his ankle injury as the Jets have a lot of young players in the positional group with a few that might just emerge as diamonds in the rough.
Peake is undoubtedly on the roster bubble as there is no telling what can happen once training camp is here. Fully recovering from his ankle injury and competing will obviously be key for decision-makers to see if he has what it takes to bring something to the table. Otherwise, he will likely not make it to the final roster once training camp is officially in the books.
