As the New York Jets are moments away from their Week 17 season finale on the road against the New England Patriots, can the unthinkable happen? The Jets would make a bold statement if they beat the Patriots to end the season on a high note.

Yes, I know. The New England Patriots are considered one of the best teams in all of professional football. They’re the kings of the AFC East where they’ve dominated the division for what seems like forever now. Whenever they go up against the New York Jets, it’s either they completely obliterate them or it’s a close game with the Patriots ultimately leaving victorious.

The Patriots play great football in every aspect of the game and have a tandem of future Pro Football Hall of Famers in Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Do the Jets even stand a chance against the Patriots today in their Week 17 season finale?

In the grand scheme of things, yes they do. There is one factor that might bring this young and developing roster to step up and not only rise to the occasion but prove that they can keep up with any team in front of them, especially the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots.

When a team truly believes their head coach and the culture he’s trying to build in the locker room, it goes a very long way. When the Jets decided to extend head coach Todd Bowles for another two years, a plethora of players chimed their thoughts to the media.

Reporters that covered the press conference soon after it broke the news circuit said that players were so happy and thrilled, you’d think they won a playoff game. It’s no secret that players love Bowles and his style of coaching and since they don’t have to worry about him getting fired or anything at season’s end, it should undoubtedly fire them up to win a big game for their coach when the odds are completely against them.

This team has a lot of great players on it that bring a lot of different things to the table. One of which is leadership as you better believe that all the leaders on the Jets are going to rally this team to do the unthinkable on the road and stun the Patriots in front of thousands of their fans.

If the Jets spoil today’s season finale at Gillette Stadium for the Patriots, it would not only ruin their plans of home field advantage throughout the NFL Playoffs but would be a huge way to end the season on a high note.

In football, it’s any given Sunday. Don’t be surprised if the Jets put together one of their finest games of the season and stun the Patriots and well, the football world if it ends up happening once the game is officially over.
