Heading into Week 16 fantasy football, don’t waste your time starting tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins of the New York Jets since he’s been a non-factor over the past seven weeks.
When it comes to preparing for championship week in fantasy football, it’s all about working the waiver wire for those sleeper picks and of course, finalizing the best lineup possible. When it comes to having a decent TE1 or a FLEX option, always put a player that is entering a favorable matchup. Unfortunately for tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins of the New York Jets, he’s simply not worth starting at all this week due to being a non-factor for quite some time now.
Seferian-Jenkins hasn’t scored a touchdown in seven straight weeks and has had very little contributions on offense. Of course, it doesn’t help when you change quarterbacks but Bryce Petty is his new starter and when he debuted under center last week, didn’t connect much at all with Seferian-Jenkins.
Against the New Orleans Saints last week, Seferian-Jenkins only had two passes thrown his way and totaled just 13 yards. Needless to say, much should be the same this week as the Jets have their final home game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Sit Seferian-Jenkins this week since he won’t do much of anything as Petty continues to find his identity on offense. He has a lot of issues to work on from accuracy, timing, and well, having offensive coordinator John Morton trust him more to use his arm strength to at least attempt some deep passes.

Don’t expect to see Seferian-Jenkins used as a security blanket since it’s highly likely Morton and the Jets will once again limit Petty and depend on the ground game to alleviate some pressure. It’s just not worth it this week so it’s best to look elsewhere if you need a tight end or FLEX option if you’ve made it all the way to championship week in your fantasy league.
