Running back Bilal Powell of the New York Jets is teaming up with the Colon Cancer Foundation to help raise awareness and funding for the fight against colorectal cancer.

When it comes to colon cancer, it’s extremely hard to not only deal with but treat. When it hits family and loved ones, it’s devastating. Running back Bilal Powell of the New York Jets knows all about the devastation that comes when someone close to you, unfortunately, has colon cancer.

Powell’s best friend was diagnosed with colon cancer and it, unfortunately, took his life. Due to this, Powell is teaming up with the Colon Cancer Foundation to not only bring awareness to the masses but also help fund against colon cancer.

Through the Colon Cancer Foundation, Powell has launched a special campaign to help support education, research, and preventative efforts against colon cancer. In Week 13 against the Kansas City Chiefs at home in MetLife Stadium, he will wear custom cleats that not only pay tribute to the foundation but also the loving memory of his best friend. This will be a part of the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” program.

Here is what Powell said about the efforts he’s doing in this special campaign:

“This is an important issue that many people have little or no knowledge about until it’s too late,” Powell said. “The Colon Cancer Foundation is doing some excellent work in the fight against this ugly disease and I hope that together we can bring about awareness and make real change to help prevent future heartbreak and suffering.”

For anyone that donates at least $10 to Powell’s special campaign via the Colon Cancer Foundation site, they will earn an entry into a special raffle. Every $10 will give a raffle ticket towards winning some fantastic prizes.

Another person will win an autographed football and jersey. Finally, one person will win the game-worn “My Cause, My Cleats” from that Week 13 home game.

This is a great cause and will undoubtedly help many that are already affected by colon cancer but also, bring more awareness to get testing done early before it’s too late. Powell is leading the charge around this cause and continues to make big impacts both on the field and off it.
