When it comes to Week 10 fantasy football, the defense of the New York Jets serves as a solid start against the offense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Coming off a Thursday Night primetime victory over their division rival Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets now sit at 4-5 after a 34-21 Week 9 performance. The defensive unit of the Jets was the true MVP of the week forcing three fumbles and sacking QB Tyrod Taylor seven times. Those that started this defense last week in fantasy football undoubtedly enjoyed a healthy amount of points.

Muhammad Wilkerson and the rest of Gotham’s defensive line held LeSean McCoy to 25 rushing yards as well. A tremendous accomplishment for that Jet defense as McCoy made them look foolish as he piled up 110 rushing yards during their Week 1 matchup earlier this year. With the Jets traveling to Tampa Bay this coming Sunday, it would be wise to start Gang Green’s defense as they face a Buccaneers offense without Jameis Winston and Mike Evans.

The offense of the Buccaneers is an average bunch being ranked 21st in points scored per game with 19.8, 13th in total yards per game with 354.5, 3rd in passing yards per game with 272.6, and 28th in rushing yards with 81.9.

The defense of the Jets is nothing special statistically, but with performances like theirs from last week, they become viable starting fantasy defenses. They’re the 18th best defense in points allowed with 21.2, 22nd in total yards per game with 310.4, 25th in passing yards per game with 203.8 and 18th in rushing yards allowed with 106.7.

While these are obviously not elite defensive statistics, the one thing that really boosts the fantasy football value of the Jets defense for this week is simply because Tampa will be without Winston and Evans. The Jets may be the 25th best defense against the pass while Tampa is the 3rd best passing offense, however, those stats are when Winston is under center.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, the once magical QB of the Jets who led the team to a 10-6 record with one win shy of the playoffs has resumed his starting role while Winston is sidelined. Ironic how this occurs once the Jets are scheduled to play Tampa Bay.

Never the less, the Jets and Jets Nation are all too familiar with how Fitz can completely breakdown as well as completely shine. In his career, the journeyman QB has a 46-69-1 record as a starter with a TD/INT ratio of 170:135. In the grand scheme of things, start the Jets defense as the odds are in their favor with Tampa Bay being without their star QB and WR for Week 10.
