The New York Jets defense has shown promise, but they can’t stay hot. Will they become more consistent?

Every week, fans of the New York Jets are left wondering, “which defense will we see this week?”

In Week 1 and 2, the Jets allowed 20+ points, which led to two losses in a row. Then, in Week 2, they stepped up, allowing only six points against Miami. In Week 4, while they did allow 20 points, they had some individual stars, such as Kony Ealy (one interception and four pass deflections).

They showed more great offense against Cleveland, as they totaled two interceptions and one sack. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball two weeks in a row, giving up more than 20 points to New England and Miami. This inconsistency had led to a mediocre 3-4 record.

New York has tons of talent on the defensive side, and when they’re hot, they’re really hot. The players need to constantly pick each other up, motivate each other, and stay focused on the goal. If they can stay focused, this team could very well find themselves in the playoffs at the end of the year.

Also, players like Leonard Williams, Buster Skrine and Muhammad Wilkerson need to pick up the pace. All of these players have the talent to help this team get wins, but they aren’t playing up their expectations. If these players, as well as the coaching staff, can figure out what’s wrong and fix it, then they won’t have many problems throughout the rest of the season.

The Jets’ offense is pretty good this year, and if they can get consistently solid performances from the defense, then they’ll do fine. The AFC East is so tight right now. This team can run away with that first place spot if they just stay consistent, and take it one game at a time.
