Heading into Week 6 fantasy football, running back Elijah McGuire is set to have the biggest game of his rookie season with the New York Jets. Start him this week.

Running back Elijah McGuire has been a pleasant surprise so far in his rookie season with the New York Jets. It was back in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars that McGuire made a name for himself as he put on a clinic. In that game, McGuire totaled 93 rushing yards, 10 rushes, and scored the first touchdown of his career. Is he worth starting in Week 6 fantasy football action against the New England Patriots?

McGuire is entering a huge game due to the unfortunate injuries to the running backs ahead of him on the depth chart. Matt Forte is dealing with a knee/toe turf injury and Bilal Powell missed some practice sessions earlier in the week due to a calf injury.

Forte will more than likely suit up for the game as will Powell but if it’s anything fantasy football owners should know is to never start a running back coming off of injury. It remains to be seen how the Jets plan to sort all this out at running back against the Patriots but it’s expected that McGuire will see a lot of reps coming his way.

The overall defense of the Patriots has left much to the imagination and hasn’t been the same dominating force that the football world has been used to. They’re terrible against the pass and their run defense has had issues all season long.

This bodes well for McGuire who could very well put on another clinic since he’ll get more opportunities to do what he does best. Fantasy football owners would be wise to put him in either as  FLEX option or even as an RB2 in the grand scheme of things.

McGuire has star potential written all over him and does well both on the ground or as a receiving option out of the backfield. If the Jets want to beat the Patriots to extend their win streak to four straight games, it’ll be by putting their players in a position to succeed.

Expect to see McGuire make the most out of this highly favorable matchup and hopefully, the Jets will feed him the rock enough to stun the Patriots in front of their home crowd. Talk about making a statement if the Jets do leave this game victorious and it’s all because of a monster game courtesy of McGuire if everything goes according to plan.
