Heading into Week 6 fantasy football, running back Matt Forte of the New York Jets is a safe sit against the New England Patriots.

When running back Matt Forte went down with injury back in Week 3, the writing was on the wall. The 31-year-old veteran missed the following two weeks due to turf toe and knee injuries which paved the way for the surge at running back between Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire. Forte has been practicing this week with the New York Jets and looks to return in Week 6 action against the New England Patriots. Should fantasy football owners even consider starting him this week since he’ll be back?

If it’s one thing to learn about fantasy football, is to never start a player coming off an injury that sidelined them for a few games. Such is the case with Forte who more than likely won’t do much of anything against the defense of the Patriots.

The Patriots defense is good against the run but is abysmal when it comes to passing situations. If the Jets plan to leave their Week 6 AFC East division rivalry game victorious, it’ll come down to a game plan that focuses on their passing game.

Fantasy football owners would be wise to sit Forte this week since he’s coming off of two big injuries and will more than likely take a backseat to McGuire and even Powell. By the looks of it, Powell (currently dealing with a calf injury) will indeed play against the Patriots but it’s hard to predict who will actually start at running back for the Jets in their Week 6 matchup.

If anything, the Jets will more than likely give the nod to McGuire while using Powell in situational football like key 3rd down conversions or even in certain offensive plays to maximize his strengths as a receiving target. Forte would be lucky if he even saw 10 or more snaps since so far this season, he’s been ineffective, to say the least.

START OR SIT?: Fantasy Pros Start or Sit Assistant Tool

Sit Forte this week and look for another option at running back if you need an RB2 or even a FLEX option this week. You’re better off looking elsewhere since Forte won’t do much of anything this week against the Patriots.
