The New York Jets continue to surprise everyone and even though it’s been ugly, they’ve managed to win three straight games. Here’s a look at what has made them continue to overachieve.

The New York Jets are on a three-game winning streak and currently, have a 3-2 record. This is a team that many people thought wouldn’t win a single game all season. How have they gotten to this point? Here are a few surprises as to how.

Demario Davis

This isn’t Demario Davis first stint as a Jet. He was on the team from 2012-2015 and was not a very productive player, no one panicked when he decided to leave the team in free agency. This recent offseason, the Jets traded Calvin Pryor for him. Davis now isn’t the same player he was then, the Jets had linebacker concerns entering this season, but he has proved his worth. He’s second in the entire NFL in tackles as no one saw this coming.

Morris Claiborne

This isn’t the most surprising to me, but to others it definitely is. Morris Claiborne signed with the Jets in the offseason, but few non-Jets or Cowboys fans took notice. Last season, before Claiborne got hurt, he was playing like one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and so far this season, he’s had a similar impact.

Entering Sunday’s action against the Browns, Claiborne had just allowed one reception per every 22.8 coverage snaps, the second-best mark in the entire league. He also played well on Sunday against the Browns, picking up a key interception and not letting most of the passes thrown his way to be completed. If Claiborne keeps this up, the Jets got a huge steal in free agency.

Wide receiver core

Remember how awful the wide receiver core looked right after the news of Quincy Enunwa’s season-ending injury? Since that moment, the Jets have added two key receivers: Jermaine Kearse and Jeremy Kerley.

Kerley has been targeted 17 times this season. Guess how many catches he has? 17. That’s a 100% catch rate, the best mark in the league. This is still far from a great wide receiver core, but it’s better than what I expected.

The Jets are 3-2 and have a three-game winning streak, can they keep this up? Their next four games are:

vs. New England Patriots

@ Miami Dolphins

vs. Atlanta Falcons

vs. Buffalo Bills

I am by no means expecting a win against the Patriots or Falcons, but the other two games are winnable. The Jets have already crushed the Dolphins, and Jay Cutler is playing like the worst quarterback in the league, beating the Bills at home can also definitely happen. Many people had the Jets winning zero games this season, its crazy to think but they could realistically have a 5-4 record after their next slate of games.
