Linebacker Kony Ealy has been a pleasant surprise so far with the New York Jets. Even head coach Todd Bowles is excited about everything he brings to the table.

When the New York Jets took a chance on defensive end Kony Ealy, they knew they were getting a quality defender capable of bringing experience to their defense. The Jets brought him in and converted him into a linebacker and well, he’s been quite the difference maker ever since.

So far this season, Ealy has totaled five tackles and most importantly of all, five passes defended. One of which he batted up into the air and intercepted it. Early has been an excellent addition so far and he should undoubtedly help the younger players around him continue to improve.

Even head coach Todd Bowles enjoys what Ealy has done so far and what is next to come. Courtesy of the Media Relations Department of the Jets, here is what Bowles recently said this week at a press conference about Ealy:

On his thoughts about Kony Ealy’s level of play since joining the Jets…He’s adjusting. He’s still adjusting, but he finds a way to make his plays and understand the defense with the little things he does. He has some nuances that, from an intelligence standpoint playing football, that you just can’t teach that he already had. So he must’ve had some good college coaching, evidently – and he’s fitting in quite well with all the guys.

What Bowles said is simply a testament to Ealy’s hard-working demeanor and character. Ealy is a workhorse and will do whatever he’s asked of to ensure he gives complete effort every single time he steps foot on the field.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, Ealy is deal with a hamstring injury as well as a bruised shoulder injury. The defense of the Jets will miss him as he’s officially been ruled out of their Week 5 road game against the Cleveland Browns.

Don’t worry, though. Ealy will be healed up soon and will come back to do not only what he loves but to continue silencing critics and naysayers of the Jets. Nobody expected this team to do much of anything in 2017 but thanks to players like Ealy, they are slowly but surely doing all the right things needed to leave football games victorious.
