The New York Jets are now 2-2 after two back-to-back wins. Here are the top five takeaways from their Week 4 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In their Week 4 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New York Jets came out on top thanks to sticking to the fundamentals for a second straight week. They adjusted their game plan to beat their opponent and were able to surprise the football world in taking down one of the better teams in the NFL.

The Jets are now on a two-game winning streak and are riding some nice momentum. They continued that winning energy from last week and played very tough from start to finish this time around.

With the victory, the Jets can rest for the week and get ready to face the Cleveland Browns. In this game, there were improvements but they still have some mental mistakes to work on. It was a baby step for them improving as a team. They will have to continue to build on this victory with an important game in a Week 5.

This is a great opportunity for the Jets to be over .500 before facing the New England Patriots. Let’s take a deeper look from this Week 4 matchup.

5. Josh McCown looks impressive for second straight week

Quarterback Josh McCown was able to lead his team to another victory with an excellent performance. He was very careful with the football and was making smart decisions.

McCown was able to go 22 for 31 in passing and threw for 224 yards with 1 interception. He finished with a 77.9 quarterback rating which is an improvement from what it was last week. McCown was able to make the Jaguars frustrated by managing the game well.

McCown will need to build on this performance because the next few weeks will continue to decide the future of his Jets career. McCown will have to do the same performance next week when they face the Browns.

The offense kept the football for a good amount of time and kept the defense rested. If your offense can keep those chains moving, it goes a long way in setting the tempo of the game. McCown is a smart veteran who excels in this important aspect of the game.

4. Jets defensive front line steps up once again

After struggling the first two weeks, the Jets defense stepped up in a big way once again. They were able to get key defensive stops and set the tone in the second half.

With putting pressure on quarterback Blake Bortles all game, the defense caused him to throw an interception, and bat down multiple passes.

They improved big time in the second half and made the correct adjustments which were impressive. They finally stepped up and delivered a complete performance for the second straight week.

The one quarterback sack and multiple batted down passes help the Jaguars drives to be stalled. They need to continue to use their speed and agility because they could cause major problems against any opponent in the NFL once they get consistent.

3. Wide receivers and tight ends have another big week

The Jets wide receiver and tight end corps of Jeremy Kerley, Robby Anderson, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins showed up when their numbers were called upon. These three players combined to total up 142 yards of the 471 yards in total offense.

For a second consecutive week, Anderson and Jenkins came alive and made the big plays.  They both had nice plays as Anderson had a key 41-yard reception to set up a score and Jenkins had a big 27-yard reception that helped move the chains.

Kearse also had made a big 10-yard reception to also keep the momentum going. If they are able to continue this success, then they will have an improving passing offense.

They need to be a physical group these next few weeks because the next few opponents are very good. It is time for the receivers to continue to step up and become a threat against opposing defenses that must be accounted for.

Next: 2. The defensive secondary delivers once again

2. The defensive secondary delivers once again

In the beginning of the season, the Jets secondary was getting embarrassed and for a second straight week, it was a different story. The Jets secondary was able to help produce big plays to stop drives by the Jaguars.

More from Jets News

They made the tackles and had helped when they needed to. This is what a complete defensive team effort should be every single game. Everyone was being physical and doing their part.

In the second half, the Jaguars were having a lot of trouble of getting open which was exciting to see. They played a lot of bump and run kind of coverage and made it frustrating for the Jaguars receivers to get open.

It was good to see that the whole defense from the front line and secondary produce big time. They will need to continually develop and play with the same intensity for the rest of the season and not week to week. They are heading in the right direction which could very well surprise even more people if they’re able to string even more consecutive wins.

1. Commitment to the run game leads to victory

For the first two weeks of the season, it was like night and day in how the running game has been thus far this season. Running backs Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire had a combined total of 31 carries for 256 yards and one touchdown for each.

The both of them were very effective throughout the game and offensive line was able to get the right gaps for them to thrive. Powell has made a case along with McGuire to get more touches in running the football.

Powell and McGuire are both cutback and speed runners. It’s a perfect balance that could very well bring an identity on offense.

They need to establish this type of game plan because it will continue to open things up on offense, especially in play-action plans to take more deep shots down the field. Expect to see the Jets continue to commit to the run thanks to everything both running backs bring to the table.
