The New York Jets showed off some great running from two running backs in the Week 4 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Is this a sign of things to come?

The so-called “tanking” New York Jets have done the exact opposite the last two weeks, beating two Florida teams in a row. During this week’s 23-20 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, they racked up 256 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

This was awesome, and what makes it even more awesome is that it wasn’t from just one running back. Sure, Bilal Powell did most of the work with 153 yards and a touchdown, but the team’s rookie, Elijah McGuire also helped, adding 93 yards and a touchdown of his own. This was great, and it doesn’t look to be a one-time thing.

If both running backs keep up the hard work and continue to compete against each other, then they could have themselves a dynamic duo for at least the rest of the season. However, the fans don’t want this kind of duo for only one year, and the team probably thinks the same way.

The Jets could build around this dynamic running game by strengthening the offensive line and passing game, and that would give this team a promising future. Also, it would help extend Powell’s career.

If McGuire keeps progressing and doing the most with his carries, then Powell won’t have to lift all of the weight. That means he could continue his success for the next 3-5 years, and when he retires, McGuire could come in and continue the legacy.

The bottom line is that the Jets should do what they can to keep this thing going. The two-headed monster is becoming increasingly more popular because it works. They need continue to make it work for Gang Green and run themselves right into the playoffs.
