Todd Bowles says Jets will be fine if Ryan Fitzpatrick signs elsewhere by Rich Cimini (ESPN)
"Bowles expressed confidence in his contingency plans, heaping praise on starter-turned-backup , whom he believes gained maturity after having his jaw broken by a teammate last summer. Geno Smith"
Fitzpatrick at the time of this writing hasn’t announced any final decision on whether or not he plans to return to the Jets next season. Regardless if he does or doesn’t, the Jets will focus on their two main strengths of the team with their stout defense and new rushing attack. Since offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has a knack at making his playbook easy to execute and catered to the strengths of his players, all should be fine in 2016. Bowles is 100% right in his assessment of this interesting situation at quarterback.

60 minutes with Todd Bowles: 10 things we learned about the Jets by Rich Cimini (ESPN)
"Bowles called recently signed a “three-down back,” but he’s not planning to make him a full-time player. The Jets plan to use and new addition in what should be a committee-type situation. Matt Forte Bilal Powell Khiry Robinson"
Bowles knows that when it comes to winning plenty of football games, the team that wins the time of possession tends to talk away victorious. It’s no secret that the Jets upgraded their running back corps with the acquisitions of Forte and Robinson. Even if Fitzpatrick is no longer an option for the Jets, one can see them focus more on a heavy run-oriented offensive attack and still be able to win games with it and of course, stopping the opposition with their solid defense. Bowles once again shows he can handle anything coming his way, even the New York media.
Bowles: Jets Expect Mauldin to Make ‘Big Jump’ by Eric Allen (NewYorkJets.com)
"“He got better as the year went on. As he got comfortable, he started to show his personality and (was) letting his game speak a little bit more,” Bowles said."
Bowles hit the nail right on the head when it comes to the expectations of linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin. He had a very good rookie season and should carry that momentum heading into his sophomore year. If Mauldin can step up and bring that much-needed speed and pass rush to the Jets’ defense, that could be the difference this time around in making the Jets more of a contender in 2016. As a weakness last season, the Jets have some in-house options as well the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft that should hopefully address their overall pass rush.
Todd Bowles and the Jets are trying to convince themselves that they don’t need Ryan Fitzpatrick — but they do by Manish Mehta (New York Daily News)
"The Jets obviously would take a hit if the veteran signal caller, who galvanized a wayward team to a 10-win season, bolts, but the organization has always had the hammer in these negotiations."
The truth of the matter is, it would be ideal for the Jets to bring back Fitzpatrick considering everything he did last season. Yes, what Fitzpatrick is asking for financially is ridiculous but every person is entitled to believe in what their overall worth is. He broke the all-time season record of touchdowns for the Jets at 31 and knows that he deserves a pay-raise in the grand scheme of things. He should also realize though, this is the perfect situation for him and the best way to end his career on a high note. It would be different without him but at the end of the day, hopefully he comes back.
