NY Jets: Team uses FitzMagic to get much needed win

The NY Jets created some much needed separation in the AFC wildcard race with their 38-20 win over the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets came into their Week 12 match-up beaten, broken and desperate for answers. The Jets (6-5) came out with an exclamation point in a dominant victory over their AFC East rival in the Miami Dolphins (4-7). The Jets swept the Dolphins this season for the first time since 2007 and they needed it in the worst of ways.

After a 4-1 start it looked as if the Jets were headed for greatness, unfortunately the team collapsed under the pressure and went 1-4 over their next 5 games. Sitting at 5-5 with quarterback controversy brimming at the surface, this game was as important as any. Fortunately those quarterback questions were answered.

Ryan Fitzpatrick this week decided to ‘change up the mojo’ by shaving his infamous facial hair. Coincidentally the last time Fitzpatrick decided to ‘change up the mojo’ the following game he tossed 6 touchdown passes against the Tennessee Titans. He didn’t throw 6 in this one, but I’m sure the Jets are happy with 4 of them.

It WAS Fitz’s first game as a Jet with 3 TD passes. Now it’s his first with 4. TD No. 2 to @BMarshall! #MIAvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/Bw4LxBxSUn

Fitzpatrick finished the day with 277 yards through the air and a season high 4 touchdown strikes. With an artery clog of contenders for the 2 AFC wildcard spots it was inevitable that some separation would begin to show and it did. The Buffalo Bills lost a tough game to the Kansas City Chiefs severely hurting their playoff potential.

Now the Jets have entered another fray involving those Chiefs, Steelers and Texans in a 4-way tie for the last 2 spots with all the teams sitting at 6-5. Due to tiebreakers, with the Steelers loss to the Seahawks, they fall all the way to 8th place while the Jets rise up to 7th place with 5 games to go. Every win and loss is going to have a dramatic effect on the Jets and their chances at getting back to the postseason for the first time since 2010.

Their next opponent, the New York Giants in the infamous battle for New York bragging rights will be a great one heading into Week 13 of NFL action. The Giants (5-6) just lost to the Washington Redskins (5-6) and now sit in a tie for the NFC East lead. While the Jets are sitting currently on the outside looking in for the NFL Playoffs.

This game is important for both sides and is eerily similar to their last match-up 4 years ago when the Jets came in 8-6 and the Giants came in 7-7 with everything on the line. Of course everyone remembers what happened as the Jets lost the game and the Giants went on to win their 4th Lombardi trophy with Eli Manning at the helm. Can the Jets flip the script? This’ll be one of the best games of Week 13 and definitely one to look forward to.
