With the 2014 NFL season more than halfway complete, it is not too early to look ahead. Especially when your record is 2-8 as it is for the New York Jets, the NFL draft can’t come soon enough.
Gil Brandt is a well-known draft expert. Brandt has started to look ahead at the NFL draft, looking at the biggest needs for each team, as well as the current draft order if the season ended today. Currently, the Jets would have the fourth pick, and Brandt looked at the teams’s biggest needs. We are going to look at the three needs enumerated by Brandt, and then I want to hear from you.

QUARTERBACK: The first need is an obvious one. The Jets have a dire need at quarterback. Geno Smith has had some moments in his career, but has not been able to string them together. The Jets have lost faith in the quarterback, culminating in a three consecutive interception performance against the Bills.
Michael Vick has been better, but not the future, and clearly the team has no trust in Matt Simms. It would seem prudent to take a quarterback with the Jets earliest choice.

CORNERBACK: What about this glaring need? It has gotten to the point that the Jets have needed to run guys off of the street onto the field at the cornerback position on Sundays. It would be being polite to say that the cupboard is a bit bare at this position.
Yes, the Jets will have Dee Milliner and Dexter McDougle returning from injuries in 2015. But, with their respective histories, can the Jets really trust them to be the answer? Maybe the Jets need to continue with the form of recent years and choose a player on the defensive side of the ball, specifically a cornerback.

OFFENSIVE LINE: With the many other problems facing the New York Jets, this group doesn’t receive the attention it might normally get. Nick Mangold still plays at a high level. D’Brickashaw Ferguson is not the player he once was. Willie Colon is aging. Do you trust the rest of the Jets linemen?
Maybe the Jets should work on the group up front to open the 2015 draft?
Now what do you guys say? Vote in the poll below, and tell us which position you would choose if you held the power to make the Jets first pick?
If the season ended today, which position should the Jets choose with their first draft pick?
