The more I hear Geno Smith talk, the more excited I become about him leading the Jets into the future.
We know that the Jets’ have high expectations for themselves. This is nothing new, except now it’s not just from the coach, it’s from players as well. This team is confident in the work they are putting in, and they will be able to show it on the football field.
Geno Smith was asked how he feels about the team and hearing the confident statements being made:
Yeah, I like hearing it but you’ve got to walk the fine line. You’ve got to understand, like I said, it takes a lot of hard work. In order to be a good team in this league you’ve got to be very disciplined. You’ve got to do a ton of things right. That’s the reason why we practice hard. We try to focus on the little details, small details, and take it one step at a time and then once the games come around, we’ll have a chance to prove ourselves on the field.

That is the statement of a real leader. Geno is not boasting here in any way. He likes that the team is confident, as he should. There is no reason not to be confident. You are playing a game where you run into each other at full speed, if you aren’t confident you aren’t going to play very well. But he understands that you have to be careful, and that there is work involved.
Geno Smith is a leader, and he is our leader.
Here is Geno on the team’s reaction to high expectations:
I think every team in the league has got those same goals and aspirations. That’s the reason why we play the game. That’s the reason why we practice hard. Like I said, we have confidence in ourselves. We understand that it takes a ton of hard work and you’ve got to prove it out on the field, but we never want to sell ourselves short. The main thing is that we continue to stay focused. We’re all levelheaded. No one’s here saying we cornered the marked on anything. We believe that we have to put the work in and if we do so then we’ll have a good team.
Here is a guy in Geno Smith that gets it. He has come a long way in a short time. Geno is a guy that understands what it takes to win in this league. I can’t wait to see if he can get it done on the field this Fall.
