Good morning Jets fans. Happy Tuesday. I thought it might be fun to start off this morning with a bit of humor, as provided by our beloved coach, Rex Ryan. He is never short of something to say, so I thought I would give you some of my favorite Rex Ryan quotes, in no particular order:
“We came to New York City to be the best team in the NFL, not just the best team in New York City. And I have news for you: We are the better team. We’re the big brother. … It seems clear that right now we are the better team and we are going to remain the better team for the next 10 years.”
Remember this one, early in his tenure:
“First off, with all the cameras I was looking for our new president back there. I think we’ll get to meet him in the next couple of years anyway.”
This next one was funny, the week the Jets were going to play the then undefeated Colts in 2009:
“We’re going to start with the injury report, obviously. Manning, Clark, Addai, Reggie Wayne, Freeney, Mathis, Brackett — all those guys will not play. Oh, hold up. That was my wish list for Santa Claus.”
This was a beauty, when he compared himself to Tom Brady, looks and all:
“I never realized how similar that I am to Tom Brady, I mean, the obvious physical appearance would be the first thing. The fact that he’s married to a supermodel? Hello? Yeah, I’m also married to a supermodel. I just happened to turn the page of InStyle magazine, page 329, just realized that we are very similar in that way.”
Next, a personal favorite of mine, regarding a certain team we love to hate:
“I never came here to kiss Bill Belichick‘s rings. I came here to win, let’s put it that way. … I’m certainly not intimidated by New England or anybody else.”
How can a list of Rex quotes go without this one:
“…Now let’s go eat a g–d— snack!”
An unfortunate one, right before the Christmas Eve battle against the Giants last year:
“There’s no way I’m going to be second fiddle. If we were playing the New York Yankees, I don’t want to be second fiddle to them. This is the same type of deal. I want to be the best team in football, not just the best team in this city. But we’ll start by being the best team in this city.”
And recently, on how he feels about the defense going into 2012:
“I don’t want to put any undue expectations on our team … So I would expect that we’d lead the league.”
Finally, a quote from Rex regarding toughness, that involves “fur”?
“If you take a swipe at one of ours, we’ll take two swipes at one of yours. We’re going to turn the heat up, we’re going to let the fur fly, and let’s see what happens.”
Whether you love him or hate him, he sure is fun, isn’t he? Thought it might be a nice trip down memory lane with our coach on this Tuesday morning. Hope you enjoyed it.
