If the New York Jets are wise, they should look for a seasoned quarterback and give young Bryce Petty time to grow.

In the grand scheme of things, quarterback Bryce Petty could use some experienced mentoring that could help him develop and blossom as the next best thing for the New York Jets. The Jets should definitely keep that in mind, as they are being very cautious with the playing opportunities in store for quarterback Christian Hackenberg as well.

Petty may have what it takes in time and the same goes for Hackenberg. They are both young and need to grow further to acquire new skills learned along the way for both of their journeys in the NFL. Petty has seen some action and playing time, unfortunately, he got injured late in 2016 and was sidelined, which left Ryan Fitzpatrick as the best option to end a horrific season.

Now that Fitzpatrick’s run with the Jets is finally over and done with, the Jets are looking for a new face, hopefully, a consistent and healthy reliable player to lead them to victories. Would Jay Cutler be a great addition this offseason? Maybe yes and no. Fans would be quite skeptical and unsure if he could step up and get the job done.

Cutler certainly could help out the younger guys on this failing offense that couldn’t score touchdowns in 1st and goal situations. They need to find a new bright star for their franchise. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick himself could be of great service to go out there and help this team win as well.

Kaepernick’s controversial comments may have hurt his reputation in the eye of the fans and media, but he has what it takes to be considered an upgrade for the Jets at the quarterback position, even if it is a slight one.

Either way, Petty should be given more time to be developed the right way as the weight of this team should be carried by someone a bit more familiar and experienced. A veteran quarterback that has a clear head and be able to win football games for this franchise.

The expectations might be too much for a growing quarterback but Petty is talented enough that hopefully in another year or so, could be a great and amazing starting player for the Jets. Patience is key with Petty’s future
