Heading into Week 3 fantasy football action, running back Matt Forte is a must-start against the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the biggest fantasy football questions heading into Week 3 is to start or sit running back Matt Forte of the New York Jets. After analyzing his statistics and weekly matchup, I cannot agree with my fellow colleague Luis Tirado Jr. of TheJetPress.com when he says to sit Forte this week.

Last week, Forte totaled 100 yards on 30 carries. He also had three touchdowns and added nine yards when he completed 2-of-3 targets. In some fantasy football leagues, Forte earned as much as 35 points. I’d also like to add in Week 1 he brought 20 fantasy football points to owners everywhere.

Now, I understand Forte will not have three touchdowns or 30 carries every week. However, someone who just had 52 carries in two games  is not going to take a back seat role.

Everyone is concerned about Forte’s workload, and when we will see the re-emergence of running back Bilal Powell. Yes, the Jets have said they will eventually cut Forte’s workload, but it’s only Week 3, and I just don’t think it will happen this week.

More from The Jet Press

Head coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey aren’t concerned about Forte’s workload at the moment.

Here is what Bowles had to say about the topic, courtesy of the Media Relations Department of the Jets:

"“I like to see us successful. If we can ride somebody, we’ll ride him, whether it be a receiver, quarterback, or running backs. It doesn’t matter.”"

The Jets vs Chiefs Week 3 matchup is also an ideal situation for Forte.

The Chiefs have allowed 126 rushing yards per game this season. When the Chiefs played the Houston Texans, running back Lamar Miller earned 16 fantasy football points. Then when the Chiefs played the San Diego Chargers, running back  Melvin Gordon earned 23 points and Danny Woodhead earned 30. The Chiefs gave the Chargers’ running backs almost 50 fantasy football points combined; that’s unreal!

Forte’s workload will decrease, but not this week when Brandon Marshall is questionable and the matchup offers great odds. Forte is a must start in any fantasy football league heading into Week 3.
